FREE Eagle, Highland Reel and Sole Power do battle for Ireland in Hong Kong on Sunday.

Sixth in the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe on his most recent outing, Free Eagle is set to have his final racecourse start in the 10-furlong Hong Kong Cup before retiring to stand at the Irish National Stud.

Paddy ‘Whacker’ O’Brien, travelling head lad for trainer Dermot Weld, said: “He’s put back on the 5kg he lost travelling over here and his weight is spot-on. He’s eating and drinking well, which is what you want to see.”

Free Eagle is the general 4/1 favourite for the Cup. Ironically the second favourite Designs On Rome (6/1) was bred and sold by Moyglare Stud, owners of Free Eagle.

The Aidan O’Brien-trained Highland Reel is the second favourite at around 6/1 for the 12-furlong Hong Kong Vase. Last year’s winner Flintshire is the solid 2/1 favourite for this event, with Sir Michael Stoute’s Cannock Chase third-best at 8/1.

Eddie Lynam is keeping his fingers crossed Sole Power can make it fourth-time lucky in the Sprint. Sole Power has never won over six furlongs but did finish a clear second in this race in 2013. Some midweek rain in Hong Kong will not have aided his chances.
