LIGHTENING Fast will hopefully prove to be a prophetic name for the first progeny of Frankel to grace a racecourse in Ireland.

The two-year-old colt will make his debut today at the Curragh in the Darley EBF Maiden, trained by Ger Lyons for Qatar Racing.

The colt is the first foal out of the Group 1 Cheveley Park Stakes winner Lightening Pearl, the daughter of Marju providing Ger Lyons with his first success at the highest level on the flat. The dam also has a yearling full-sister to the colt making his debut.

Frankel has made a sensational start to his new career, with seven of his first eight runners winning.

Queen Kindly is a dual winner and was placed in the Group 3 Albany Stakes at Royal Ascot, while Frankel’s first ever winner Cunco was also placed at the same meeting in the Listed Chesham Stakes. The eighth runner was placed in France.

Good impression

Another first season sire in the news is Famous Name. The 21-time winner had a top-priced yearling last year sell for €280,000 and the colt, now named Escobar, created a good impression when winning on his debut yesterday for Hugo Palmer.

Bred by Peter Evans, the colt was sold as a foal for €105,000 at Goffs through Ringfort Stud to Bobby O’Ryan, and resold as a yearling by Croom House Stud to Amanda Skiffington.
