Lot 37 (g) Valirann – Talkin Madam
Vendor: Baroda Stud
Purchaser: GC Bloodstock
Price: €58,000
A French-based Group 2 winner during his time on the track, Valirann is being represented by his first crop of three-year-olds at the various store sales this summer and a number of them have caught the eye. At Goffs earlier in the month his progeny fetched up to €155,000 and he supplied another eye catching sort in this gelding who was showing a good return on the €10,000 he cost as a foal. The exploits of his half-brother Run Wild Fred, a dual bumper winner this year for Gordon Elliott, substantially bolstered his pedigree since his last appearance in the sales ring.
Lot 86 (g) Fame And Glory – Way Back When
Vendor: Mount Eaton Stud
Purchaser: G Aherne for M.V. Magnier
Price: €90,000
Among many pinhooking successes this week was this gelding who was picked up for €27,000 as a foal. He is the second produce of a dual winner whose dam was the high-class chaser Makounji, but perhaps more significantly he is a son of the much missed Fame And Glory. The exploits of the latter’s progeny over the last couple of seasons have meant that his passing has been acutely felt and as a result his three-year-olds this summer have been in some demand. Indeed Fame And Glory’s average over the two days came in at highly impressive €61,125 with 40 of his 43 progeny offered finding buyers.
Lot 218 (f) Sholokhov – Five Star Present
Vendor: Rathbarry Stud
Purchaser: Highflyer Bloodstock
Price: €50,000
This filly, who was picked up for €28,000 as a yearling at the 2017 November National Hunt Sale, looks an interesting prospect for the coming seasons. She shares her sire with the Cheltenham Gold Cup winner Don Cossack while she comes from a pedigree that has previously lit up this sale as she is the third produce of an own-sister to the former Derby Sale top lot and Cheltenham Festival winner First Lieutenant.
Lot 258 (g) No Risk At All – Hidden Horizons
Vendor: Shanaville Stables
Purchaser: Monbeg Stables
Price: €70,000
For the second year in succession the Monbeg Stables team ended the sale as the leading purchasers, spending close to €1.7 million on 33 horses. Among their eye-catching acquisitions was this son of the dual Group 3-winning No Risk At All. The €10,000 foal shares his sire with one of the top lots from last year’s sale, and No Risk At All’s talents were amply advertised last season by the top-drawer staying novice hurdler Allaho. In addition, this gelding is the first produce of a winning half-sister to the Grade 3 scorer Perfect Candidate.
Lot 349 (f) Blue Bresil – Miss Poli
Vendor: Ballincurrig House Stud
Purchaser: Paurick O’Connor
Price: €60,000
The sale contained just two representatives of the British-based sire Blue Bresil who has already sired the likes of Mick Jazz and Le Prezien. As well as the €200,000 gelding bought by Tom Malone the Smadoun horse was well represented by this popular filly who was showing a good return on the €8,500 she cost as a foal. She is out of a half-sister to the smart Brelade and their dam is the Grade 1-winning French chaser Polivalente.
