A CAPACITY field of 24 will face the starter at Flemington on Tuesday as the final few spots for the Emirates Melbourne Cup are finalised at today’s Victoria Derby Day.

Both the Lexus Stakes and Mackinnon Stakes winners will be offered ballot-free entry into the A$6 million two-mile handicap but they wont affect the three Irish-trained runners who are guaranteed a spot in the final line-up when declarations are taken at 4.30pm local time today.

Tuesday’s race time is 3pm locally which is 4am in Ireland. The race will NOT be shown live on At The Races but will be on Eurosport (Sky 410) from 3.15am to 4.15am.

Frankie Dettori is expected to ride the Willie Mullins-trained Max Dynamite who has been under the care of former jump jockey David Casey in Australia. The Lonsdale Cup winner had a first look at Flemington Racecourse on Tuesday of this week.

Max Dynamite was given the whole experience from the raceday stalls and a walk through the tunnel into the mounting yard before some light work on the track. “He’s been here a month now so it was just to give him a day away, get him in the horse box, get his blood up a bit and have a look at the track,” Casey said.

The horse was due to do his final strong piece of work on Thursday. “He’s a very clean-winded horse,” Casey said. “We gave him a good blow when Willie came over and that just proved to us that he didn’t need a run as he was in very good order that day.”

Brett Prebble will ride the Aidan O’Brien-trained Bondi Beach, the Doncaster St Leger runner-up who is now part-owned by leading Australian owner Lloyd Williams. The owner has won the Cup four times including with the Prebble-ridden Green Moon in 2012.

Colm O’Donoghue will partner the four-year-old Kingfisher, second in the Ascot Gold Cup but well-beaten behind Order Of St George on his last two starts.
