Yet he is a horse whose pedigree could see him get his best results in Europe.

One of 19 Grade 1 winners for the classic-placed Candy Stripes, he is a grandson of Blushing Groom (by Red God) and so represents a sire line that has had considerable influence in Europe.

His dam Dissemble (by Ahonoora) was unraced but she is also the dam of the Grade 1 winner and pattern sire Uapybo (by Blush Rambler) and of the pattern scorer Disport (by Blue Stag).

Her winning dam is Kerali (by High Line) and it is remarkable that six of her half-sisters are also the dams of stakes winners, with one of those siblings being one of the truly great broodmares of all time.

That celebrity mare is Hasili (by Kahyasi), a listed winner in France before becoming the dam of the Group/Grade 1 stars Banks Hill (by Danehill), Cacique (by Danehill), Champs Elysees (by Danehill), Heat Haze (by Green Desert), and Intercontinental (by Danehill), in addition to the Group 1-placed pattern scorers Dansili (by Danehill) and Deluxe (by Storm Cat).

Dansili is well-established as being one of the best stallions in Europe, Cacique is the sire of a Group 1 winner and Champs Elysees made a promising start as a freshman in 2013.

Banks Hill is also doing her bit for the family as she is the dam of the Group 1-winning filly Romantica (by Galileo) and of the pattern-placed stakes winner Ideal World (by Kingmambo).

Hasili’s full-sister Arrive won her listed race in England and she is the dam of the Group 1 Pretty Polly Stakes winner Promising Lead (by Dansili) and of the multiple Grade 1 placed pattern scorer Visit (by Oasis Dream).

Stakes-placed Skiable (by Niniski) is the dam of the multiple Group 1-placed Grade 2 scorer Three Valleys (by Diesis), Kid Gloves (by In The Wings) is the dam of the dual Group/Grade 2 winner Treat Gently (by Cape Cross), Kalima (by Kahyasi) has produced the pattern scorer Jet Away (by Cape Cross), and Jiving (by Generous) is the dam of the pattern-placed listed winner Excusez Moi (by Fusaichi Pegasus).

His third dam is the Group 1 Cheveley Park Stakes heroine Sookera (by Roberto), her progeny included the Group 1 Nunthorpe Stakes winner So Factual (by Known Fact) and her descendants also include the Group 1 sprint star Benbaun (by Stravinsky).

Leroidesanimaux is a triple Grade 1-winning son of Blushing Groom, he is the sire of a classic star and he comes from the immediate family of Dansili. He looks a natural to receive lots of Danehill, Green Desert, Nureyev and Sadler’s Wells line mares and he is a fascinating addition to the European stallion ranks.

LANWADES STUD

KIRSTEN Rausing’s Lanwades Stud has been in its current ownership since 1980. Although it has long been associated with standing stallions, its first of the modern era was the dual classic winner Niniski (by Nijinsky), who was champion freshman sire in 1984 and the sire of Group 1 stars such as Hernando, Kala Dancer, Lomitas, and Petoski.

The more recent flag bearer was the Group 1-winning miler Selkirk (by Sharpen Up), whose most famous offspring included Group 1 winners such as Altieri, Cityscape, Daryakana, Kastoria, Nahrain, Squeak and Wince.

Selkirk died last year, as did the aforementioned Hernando, a Lanwades-based classic star who gave us the classic winners Holding Court, Look Here, and Sulamani.

There are five stallions on the current Newmarket roster, each a winner at the highest level and two of them Derby heroes. There is also the Italian-based Vita Rosa (by Sunday Silence) and the South African-based Alado (by Danzig), the latter a son of the stud’s Group 1 star Alborada (by Alzao).

North Light (by Danehill), sire of the Group 1 St Leger winner Arctic Cosmos, was a member of the Adena Springs team in Kentucky and Canada before this year. He won the Derby in 2004, two years before the successful pattern sire Sir Percy (by Mark Of Esteem), who has been at Lanwades throughout his stud career.

The classic-winning miler Aussie Rules (by Danehill) moved from Coolmore to Lanwades in 2012 and last year’s popular and prolific pattern scorer Fiesolana heads his roll of honour.

Archipenko (by Kingmambo), who comes from a famous stallion-producing family, made an eye-catching start as a freshman in 2013 and the team is completed by the former Stonewall Farm stallion Leroidesanimaux (by Candy Stripes), the famously-related sire of the Kentucky Derby hero Animal Kingdom.
