THE record of his sire’s other sons is one of the things we look at when examining the prospects of a young stallion, and Group 1 winner Vadamos passes that test with flying colours. Monsun (by Konigsstuhl) was one of the all-time great German stallions, and his daughters and sons have extended his influence. Two of the latter have sired six flat Group/Grade 1 winners apiece, so far, and another has made a striking impression with his first crop.

Many immediately associate Shirocco with his great hurdling daughter Annie Power – who comes from a top-class flat family – but in addition to four southern hemisphere Grade 1-scorers, he is responsible for ill-fated Irish St Leger star Brown Panther and Deutsches Derby and Preis von Europa winner Windstoss.

Manduro’s half-dozen include the excellent French stayer Vazirabad, star filly Ribbons, and juvenile Group 1-scorers Mandaean and Ultra.

Manduro and Shirocco were outstanding racehorses, and Fiorente was not far behind them. He beat Red Cadeaux in the Group 1 Melbourne Cup over two miles but was better over a shorter trip, winning a Group 1 over 10 furlongs at Flemington and Group 2 contests over eight, nine and 12 furlongs. Fiorente’s first crop has earned more than A$1.5 million.

His Group 2-winning son Stars Of Carrum was a one-length runner-up to Extra Brut in the Group 1 AAMI Victoria Derby at Flemington in November, plus Hawkshot was an easy Group 2 scorer over seven furlongs at Caulfield last month before taking the runner-up spot in the Group 1 Australian Guineas over a mile at Flemington last Saturday.

All this augurs well for the prospects of the top-notch miler Vadamos, especially as he comes from a prolific blacktype family whose many stakes winners include a classic sire.

A half-brother to stakes winner Volfango (by Dutch Art) and the dam of seven-furlong Group 3 scorer Tornibush (by Dream Ahead), he is out of Celebre Vadala (by Peintre Celebre), a stakes-winning half-sister to the classic-placed, Group 1-winning miler Valixir (by Trempolino). His dam’s siblings also include Vadaza (by Zafonic), who is the stakes-placed dam of the Group 1-stars Vazira (by Sea The Stars) and Vadawina (by Unfuwain). The latter’s trio of stakes winners includes the Group 1-placed pattern scorers Vadamar (by Dalakhani) and The Pentagon (by Galileo).

Vadlamixa (by Linamix), the stakes-winning grandam of Vadamos, is a half-sister to Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Mile hero Val Royal (by Royal Academy), the sire of dual Guineas star Cockney Rebel. This is also the family of ill-fated Group 1 Prix de Diane (French Oaks) heroine Valyra (by Azamour), Group 1 Irish St Leger winner Voleuse De Coeurs (by Teofilo), and dual Group 1 mile ace Vahorimix (by Linamix).

Vadamos was placed in both his runs at two but will sire two-year-old winners. However, his best results look likely to come from his three-year-olds and older horses, from seven furlongs and upwards, and that makes him a potential classic sire. His first foals made up to 52,000gns in 2018.

VADAMOS (FR). Won eight races, £615,388, from 1 mile to 1½ miles, 3 to 5 years including, Qatar Prix du Moulin de Longchamp, Chantilly, Gr.1, Darley Oettingen Rennen, Baden-Baden, Gr.2, Prix du Muguet, Saint-Cloud, Gr.2, Prix Messidor, Maisons-Laffitte, Gr.3, Prix Frederic de Lagrange, Vichy, L, also placed second in P. Fresnay le Buffard Jacques Le Marois, Deauville, Gr.1.
