AN undefeated champion at two and champion again the next season over his Epsom Derby winning distance of 12 furlongs, Sir Percy is the best son of champion miler Mark Of Esteem. He is the only horse in the last 20 years to win at six furlongs as a two-year-old and add the Epsom Derby at three years.

Sir Percy has made an impressive start at stud, as in his first five seasons he has sired some 150 individual winners. Among those are a dozen blacktype scorers, notably Lady Tiana in the Group 2 Lancashire Oaks and Sir Andrew in the Group 2 Hawke’s Bay Guineas in New Zealand, while he has also sired group winners in Ireland, Germany and the USA. He had an excellent crop of two-year-olds in 2015, with 18 individual winners, and shows great promise for this season, especially as he has 60% lifetime winners to runners.

At the 2015 sales, Sir Percy’s yearlings averaged over €39,000, more than four times his fee, with a filly selling for 170,000gns at Newmarket and a colt fetching €150,000 at Baden-Baden.

Percy’s Lass, the dam of Sir Percy, is a daughter of Epsom Derby star Blakeney who was herself winner of the Group 3 September Stakes at Kempton, while also running third in the Group 2 Sun Chariot Stakes. She produced five winners including the group-placed Blue Lion, and is grandam of triple group star Mikhail Glinka and Grace O’Malley who won the Group 3 Noblesse Stakes.
