SCAT Daddy (by Johannesburg) was a mile Grade 1 winner at two, a nine-furlong Grade 1 scorer at three, and began his stallion career at Ashford Stud in Kentucky at a fee of $30,000. The grandson of mile Grade 1 heroine Likeable Style (by Nijinsky) also shuttled to South America, his fee dropped as low as $10,000 for his fourth US term, but soared to $100,000 for 2016.

Tragically, he didn’t make it to that season. His death, at the age of just 11, was a huge loss and one that has become more apparent with the outstanding results his offspring achieved on the track that year and again in 2017.

In Europe, he is known primarily as a source of precocity and speed, with stars such as Acapulco, Caravaggio, Lady Aurelia and No Nay Never among his standouts, although Mendelssohn could be a classic colt in 2018.

In South America, however, he was a major classic sire, while in North America he is typically associated with horses who excel at around a mile and upwards.

No Nay Never was one of the most popular new sires at the 2017 yearling sales, Caravaggio looks sure to attract large books in his new home at Coolmore, and so does El Kabeir, the newest team member at Yeomanstown Stud.

A $250,000 yearling, he was an eight and a half-furlong Grade 2 scorer at two and a Grade 1-placed dual graded scorer at around that trip at three.

He is out of a half-sister to four stakes winners, headed by Too Much Bling (by Rubiano), a Grade 2 scorer over six and seven furlongs and later a multiple leading sire in Texas, of juveniles and overall. Their dam is the prolific Rose Colored Lady (by Formal Dinner) and that listed scorer is both a sibling of two listed winners and out of a mare whose stakes-winning half-brother, Mister Slippers (by Miswaki), was the top-rated sprinter in Germany in 1992.

Much of El Kabeir’s ability to perform at the highest level at a mile and at nine furlongs likely came from his sire. Combining the mix of miler and sprinter speed in his pedigree with that of mares he will likely receive should see him get plenty of successful juveniles and potentially some contenders for the top mile races.

He represents a branch of the Storm Cat (by Storm Bird) line, is inbred 5x3x5 to Mr Prospector (by Raise a Native) and is among the most interesting new recruits for 2018.

EL KABEIR (USA), Grey or Roan 2012. Won five races, £604,546, from 7 furlongs to 1 mile ½ furlong, at 2 and 3 years including, Kentucky Jockey Club Stakes, Churchill Downs, Gr.2, Gotham Stakes, Aqueduct, Gr.3, Jerome Stakes, Aqueduct, Gr.3, City of Laurel Stakes, Laurel, L, also placed 2nd Nashua Stakes, Aqueduct, Gr.2, Withers Stakes, Aqueduct, Gr.3, and 3rd twinspires.com Wood Memorial Stakes, Aqueduct, Gr.1.

Retires to stud in 2018.
