TALLY-HO Stud has a long history of producing notable stallions and the team has added two new recruits for 2018, one a leading sprinter. He is Cotai Glory who, like young Group 1 sires Excelebration and Helmet, is a son of the Australian sprint ace and champion sire Exceed And Excel (by Danehill).

His precocity and speed, combined with being a representative of the Danehill (by Danzig) line, make it likely that he will be among the busiest young Irish stallions.

He got off the mark with an odds-on success at Bath in July of his juvenile season, followed that by chasing home Limato in a listed contest at Newbury and then lifted the Group 3 Molecomb Stakes at Goodwood. He should have won the Group 2 Flying Childers Stakes at Doncaster but, having broken quickly, led the field from the start and gone clear over a furlong out, he was two lengths ahead of his closest pursuer when, just yards before the line, he swerved, the saddle slipped, and jockey George Baker was unshipped.

A few weeks later he was out of the frame in the Group 1 Prix de l’Abbaye de Longchamp but only beaten about four lengths by the winner, Move In Time.

Over the next three seasons, he ran a further 24 times, adding a Group 3 success at Newbury, beating Kingsgate Native in a listed contest at Doncaster, failing by just a neck to beat Profitable in the Group 1 King’s Stand Stakes, taking third to Marsha in the Group 1 Nunthorpe Stakes, fourth to Mecca’s Angel in another edition of that famous race, and at the age of five, running second in a Grade 2 sprint at Woodbine.

A half-brother to last season’s 10-furlong listed scorer Permission (by Authorized), Cotai Glory is a full-brother to the stakes-placed juvenile Excel’s Beauty and they are the three winners out of Continua (by Elusive Quality), an unraced full-sister to Group 1 Middle Park Stakes third Huntdown.

Cotai Glory’s grandam Infinite Spirit (by Maria’s Mon) was listed placed over a mile at two and she is out of Eternal Reve (by Diesis), a Group 3 Matron Stakes winner who was runner-up in both the Group 1 Coronation Stakes and Grade 1 Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup. That half-sister to Grade 1 Hollywood Derby scorer Eternity Star (by Majestic Light) was, in turn, out of Group 2 Lowther Stakes-placed juvenile stakes winner Northern Eternity (by Northern Dancer).

Cotai Glory looks likely to get smart juveniles plus talented sprinters and milers.

COTAI GLORY (GB), Chesnut 2012.
