MIESQUE (by Nureyev) was brilliant. Her haul of 10 Group or Grade 1s included the 1000 Guineas, Poule d’Essai des Pouliches (French 1000 Guineas), Prix du Moulin, and two editions of both the Prix Jacques Le Marois and Breeders’ Cup Mile.

Although many champion fillies disappoint at stud, as do many top colts, she became a mare of global influence. The classic-winning triple Group 1 stars Kingmambo (by Mr Prospector) and East Of The Moon (by Private Account) were her best runners, and the former became an outstanding sire, broodmare sire and sire of stallions.

His full-brother Miesque’s Son gave us the top-level stars Miesque’s Approval and Whipper (sire of Recoletos and Lord Glitters), and his half-brother Judpot (by A.P. Indy) has sired Grade 1 winners in South Africa.

His celebrity half-sister East Of The Moon can number Alpha Centauri (by Mastercraftsman) and that champion’s exciting half-sister Alpha Star (by Sea The Moon) – who could be a classic horse in 2020 – among her pattern-winning descendants.

Miesque’s descendants also include the top-level stars Amanee (by Pivotal), Karakontie (by Bernstein) and a blacktype freshman sire in 2019, Loves Only You (by Deep Impact), Real Steel (by Deep Impact) who has his first foals in 2020, Rumplestiltskin (by Danehill), and Tapestry (by Galileo).

Her stakes-winning full-sister Massaraat has last year’s dual Group 1 ace Old Persian (by Dubawi) among hers, Yogya (by Riverman) gave us the brilliant Six Perfections (by Celtic Swing) and those who descend from One Life (by L’Emigrant) include the classic-winning miler Lucayan (by Turtle Bowl).

This is one of the best families in the stud book, one with a proven track record of producing top sires too, and that makes Study Of Man an exciting addition to the stallion ranks.

He is out of Second Happiness (by Storm Cat) a daughter of Miesque and, like Saxon Warrior, who covered 165 mares in 2019, he is a son of the phenomenal Deep Impact (by Sunday Silence).

Japanese horses typically race until they are five, so it is still quite early for the late prolific champion sire to be rated as a sire of stallions, though his Tokyo Yushun (Japanese Derby)-winning son Deep Brillante added to his pattern tally last month when Mozu Bello easily won a Grade 2 over 12 furlongs at Kyoto, and Kizuna already has two pattern winners and a listed scorer from his first crop, now aged three.

Study Of Man won his only juvenile start and beat Alounak in the Group 2 Prix Greffulhe before taking the Group 1 Prix du Jockey Club (French Derby). He was second to Zabeel Prince in last year’s Group 1 Prix Ganay, chased home Waldgeist in the Group 1 Prix d’Ispahan and was also pattern-placed over a mile.

He looks sure to be popular in his new home. Although his winners will come in all age groups, and some may be pattern winners at two, his long-term potential looks to be as a source of high-class horses over the full classic range.

Study Of Man (IRE), Bay 2015. Won three races, £1,033,140, from 1 mile to 1 mile 2½ furlongs, at 2 and 3 years including, Qipco Prix du Jockey Club, Chantilly, Gr.1, Prix Greffulhe, Saint-Cloud, Gr.2, also placed second in Prix Ganay, Parislongchamp, Gr.1, Prix d’Ispahan, Parislongchamp, Gr.1, Prix La Force, Parislongchamp, Gr.3, and third in Prix Guillaume d’Ornano-Logis St Germain, Deauville, Gr.2, Prix Messidor, Deauville, Gr.3.
