ONE of the three best two-year-olds trained in England in 2012, Moohaajim was rated 116 in the European Rankings, higher than all except the unbeaten Reckless Abandon on 117 and Olympic Glory, with Toronado, Sir Prancealot and Alhebayeb all below him. Bred on similar lines to Golden Horn, by Cape Cross out of a Kingmambo mare, Moohaajim retired to Rathbarry Stud in 2015 and he will have his first yearlings at the sales this year. One of his first foals was bought by BBA (Ireland) for €56,000 last autumn.

Trained by Marco Botti, who paid 200,000gns for him at the Newmarket Breeze-Up Sale, Moohaajim won the Crocker Bulteel Stakes over six furlongs at Ascot on his debut in July, scoring by a length and three-quarters. Four weeks later he was thrown in at the deep end, being sent to Deauville for the Group 1 Prix Morny, in which he ran very creditably finishing a close fifth behind Reckless Abandon, George Vancouver and Sir Prancealot.

In September Moohaajim was an impressive winner of the Group 2 Mill Reef Stakes over six furlongs at Newbury by a length and three-quarters from Master Of War. Then his fourth and final start that season was in the Group 1 Middle Park Stakes at Newmarket, in which he failed by only a neck to catch Reckless Abandon in a thrilling finish, with Gale Force Ten third of the 10 runners.

Back at Newbury for his reappearance in 2013, Moohaajim was a close third to Olympic Glory in the Group 3 Greenham Stakes. Unfortunately he was then injured in the Group 1 Qipco 2000 Guineas won by Dawn Approach at Newmarket two weeks later and he was not able to race again.

Cape Cross, the sire of Moohaajim, is a son of Green Desert and he was a Group 1 winning miler who has been one of the outstanding stallions of the 21st century, with 106 blacktype winners to his credit including Sea The Stars and Golden Horn, who both completed the Group 1 treble of the Epsom Derby, the Irish Champion Stakes and the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe. Among his other stars are the brilliant filly Ouija Board, a dual Oaks heroine and the dam of dual Derby winner Australia, and the New Zealand champion Seachange.

Moohaajim’s dam Thiella won in Ireland and the USA and she is a half-sister to Niagara Causeway, a Grade 3 winner at Santa Anita. The next dam Theoretically scored in the Group 3 C L Weld Park Stakes and was second in the Grade 1 Del Mar Oaks; she is a half-sister to Cudas, another transatlantic star who was the winner of the Group 1 Prix Lupin at Longchamp and third in the French Derby, before adding the Grade 3 Turf Classic Stakes at Churchill Downs.

Won two races, £94,012, over 6 furlongs, at 2 years including, Dubai Duty Free Mill Reef Stakes, Newbury, Gr.2, also placed second in vision.ae Middle Park Stakes, Newmarket, Gr.1, and third in AON Greenham Stakes, Newbury, Gr.3.
