THE very handsome chesnut sprinter Cotai Glory is standing his third season at Tally-Ho Stud in Co Westmeath, where he has already proved very popular with Irish breeders at his modest fee with 113 registered foals from his first crop born in 2019.

Those first foals brought prices up to €62,000 at Goffs last November, with three of his colts fetching over €40,000 each at Newmarket in December. Then at the Goffs February Sale this month his yearling colt out of Warm Welcome sold for €41,000.

Quickly into his stride as a two-year-old, Cotai Glory scored at Bath before his first blacktype success in the Group 3 Molecomb Stakes at Glorious Goodwood, beating Fast Act and Beacon. He was second to Limato in the Listed Rose Bowl Stakes at Newbury that season. The following year he was too speedy for Kingsgate Native in the Listed Scarborough Stakes at Doncaster.

Moving up a gear as a four-year-old, Cotai Glory defeated Group 1 star Alpha Delphini in the Group 3 Dubai World Trophy at Newbury, again over five furlongs. He was beaten a neck when second to Profitable in the Group 1 King’s Stand Stakes at Royal Ascot and was second to Take Cover in the Listed Achilles Stakes at Haydock, before a close fourth behind Mecca’s Angel and Limato in the Group 1 Nunthorpe Stakes at York in August, with Profitable and Sole Power behind him.

Cotai Glory was again placed in the Nunthorpe in 2017, when he was third to Marsha and Lady Aurelia (beating Battaash and Profitable), as well as running second in the Grade 2 Nearctic Stakes at Woodbine in Canada and in the Group 3 Dubai World Trophy. He broke three track records and his earnings amounted to £315,811,

The sire of Cotai Glory is Exceed And Excel, a son of Danehill, and he was champion sprinter in Australia and has already sired 163 individual blacktype winners, 17 with Group 1 victories including Helmet (sire of Dubai World Cup winner Thunder Snow), Breeders’ Cup star Outstrip and champion miler Excelebration.

Cotai Glory’s American dam Continua has also produced Newmarket listed winner Permission and she is a half-sister by Elusive Quality to eight winners. Her grandam Eternal Reve won the Matron Stakes at Leopardstown and was second in the Group 1 Coronation Stakes at Ascot.
