A HIGH-CLASS two-year-old in 2013 who had cost €130,000 as a yearling, Altruistic won by two lengths first time out in a maiden race at Naas over seven furlongs in August, then was placed in group races in his other two starts.
In the Group 2 Beresford Stakes at the Curragh he was a close third to the smart performers Geoffrey Chaucer and Oklahoma City; then he was sent to Doncaster for the Group 1 Racing Post Trophy where he was third to the unbeaten Kingston Hill and Johann Strauss, with The Grey Gatsby behind him.
With his first crop of three-year-olds in 2020, Altruistic is a son of the great Galileo and a very good walker. His foals that were sold in the last two years have averaged 10 times his modest stud fee.
Galileo, the sire of Altruistic, was a European champion in 2001, winning the Epsom Derby and the Irish Derby. He has been champion sire in Europe 11 times and has sired over 300 individual stakes winners.
Although he has had so many successes on the flat, Galileo also comes into a large number of National Hunt pedigrees, as his sons Soldier Of Fortune and Mahler are among the leading sires of jumpers, while Imperial Monarch and Sans Frontieres already have some smart performers to their credit, though all of these stallions command much larger stud fees than Altruistic.
Altesse Imperiale, the dam of Altruistic, is a daughter of Rock Of Gibraltar who won in France and has produced four winners, including Teodoro whose six wins include the Group 3 Rose of Lancaster Stakes at Haydock and has also won twice over jumps in the USA, and September Stars with five wins among which was the Listed Possibly Perfect Stakes at Santa Anita.
Half-sisters to Altesse Imperiale include Angara, a top-class racemare in America with wins in the Grade 1 Diana Stakes at Saratoga and the Grade 1 Beverly D Stakes at Arlington, and also the Group 2 Prix Corrida heroine Actrice. Another half-sister Arlesienne was a listed winner in France and dam of three blacktype winners including Aizavoski, winner of the Grand Prix de Bordeaux and two runnings of the Vase d’Argent in France, and now a successful sire of jumpers.
ALTRUISTIC (IRE), Chesnut 2011. Won one race, £47,015, over 7 furlongs, at 2 years, also placed third in Racing Post Trophy, Doncaster, Gr.1, Juddmonte Beresford Stakes, Curragh, Gr.2.
Retired to Stud in 2016, first crop now 3 year olds
