SECOND CLASSIC STAR FOR LAWMAN

Ballylinch Stud stallion Lawman (by Invincible Spirit), who won the Group 1 Prix du Jockey Club (French Derby) as a racehorse, has now sired two classic winners at stud.

The Laura Mongan-trained Harbour Law, who was bred by Hascombe and Valiant Studs, won the Group 1 Ladbrokes St Leger at Doncaster on Saturday, making him the fifth top-level winner for his sire.

The other four are Law Enforcement and Marcel – who got their top-level success over a mile at two – Group 1 St James's Palace Stakes scorer and young stallion Most Improved (first yearlings), and 2013's Group 1 Irish 1000 Guineas heroine Just The Judge, who later added the Grade 1 E P Taylor Stakes to her tally.

Harbour Law is a half-brother to the pattern-placed Moheet (by High Chaparral), who ran in last year's 2000 Guineas and Derby, and his dam, Abunai (by Pivotal), is a half-sister to 2011's Grade 1 E P Taylor Stakes winner Miss Keller (by Montjeu).

This is the famous family of Inchmurrin (by Lomond), Inchinor (by Ahonoora), Venus De Milo (by Duke Of Marmalade) and various others with Group 1 form.

Harbour Law is a £30,000 graduate of the Goffs London Sale, and the many other stars bred by Hascombe and Valiant Studs include last year's Derby and Arc hero Golden Horn (by Cape Cross).

INTRICATELY HEADS FASTNET ROCK-GALILEO TREBLE

Australian champion sire and Coolmore Stud shuttler Fastnet Rock (by Danehill) had a big European treble at the weekend and all three pattern winners are out of Galileo (by Sadler's Wells) mares.

The biggest prize went to Intricately, short-head winner of the Group 1 Moyglare Stud Stakes over seven furlongs at the Curragh on Sunday.

The Joseph O'Brien-trained juvenile was bred by Whisperview Trading Ltd, she is the first foal out of Inner Realm (by Galileo), and as her dam is a half-sister to the prolific Group 1 star Rock Of Gibraltar (by Danehill), this potential classic filly is closely related to that classic sire.

This is also the family of the classic star and influential stallion Riverman (by Never Bend).

Like Intricately, the Dermot Weld-trained Zhukova carries the well-known colours of Chantal Regalado-Gonzalez.

The four-year-old was bred by the late Marguerite Weld, she completed a blacktype four-timer with defeat of US Army Ranger in the Group 3 KPMG Enterprise Stakes over 12 furlongs at Leopardstown on Saturday, and the daughter of runaway Group 1 Irish 1000 Guineas heroine Nightime (by Galileo) will likely now go in search of Group 1 glory.

Three hours before Zhukova's latest success, the William Haggas-trained two-year-old Rivet justified favouritism in the Group 2 At The Races Champagne Stakes over seven furlongs at Doncaster.

His half-brother won the Group 3 Gallinule Stakes and finished third in the Group 2 King Edward VII Stakes under the name Alexander Pope (by Danehill Dancer) and was renamed Packing Tycoon when he moved to Hong Kong.

Their dam, Starship (by Galileo), is a triple-winning half-sister to sprint and juvenile star Superstar Leo (by College Chapel).

AUSTRALIAN DOUBLE FOR IRISH SIRES

Irish stallions notched up a notable double in Australia on Saturday, with the better result being the victory of Palentino in the Group 1 Makybe Diva Stakes over a mile at Flemington.

This is the second top-level win for the Darren Weir-trained four-year-old and the colt, who was bred in Tasmania by Jenny Watson, is an Australian-born son of Kildangan Stud's classic sire Teofilo (by Galileo).

He is out of the four-times scorer Palatine Hill (by Palace Music), whose siblings include the stakes winners Rather Grand (by Grand Lodge) and Sublimity (by Testa Rossa), and his grandam, five-furlong winner Rather Droll (by Sovereign Red), is out of a full-sister to the Group 2 Gallinule Stakes winner Missionary Ridge (by Caerleon).

The next dam is 1973's Group 1 1000 Guineas third Shellshock (by Salvo).

About an hour and a half earlier, McCreery won the Group 3 Kingston Town Stakes, a Group 3 handicap over 10 furlongs at Rosehill.

The Chris Waller-trained four-year-old, who won at Newbury and Sandown before heading 'down under', was bred by Lord Rothschild and he is one of 10 stakes winners by the late Irish National Stud stallion Big Bad Bob (by Bob Back).

The gelding is out of French listed scorer Dolma (by Marchand De Sable) and that makes him a half-brother to the Group 1 Pretty Polly Stakes heroine Thistle Bird (by Selkirk).

THIRD GROUP 1 WINNER FOR BEAT HOLLOW

Ballylinch Stud's dual-purpose sire Beat Hollow (by Sadler's Wells) notched up his third Group 1 winner on the flat when Wicklow Brave made all in the Palmerstown House Estate Irish St Leger at the Curragh on Sunday.

The other pair to win at the highest level are Beaten Up and Proportional, and the stallion's 21 flat stakes winners also include this year's impressive Group 2 Jockey Club Stakes scorer Exosphere, who, it was reported this week, is to continue his career in Australia.

Wicklow Brave, who won the Grade 3 Vincent O'Brien County Handicap Hurdle at the 2015 Cheltenham Festival, is trained by Willie Mullins, he was bred by Millsec Ltd, and he is out of Moraine (by Rainbow Quest).

His grandam, Cantilever (by Sanglamore), is a Group 2-placed, Group 3-winning half-sister to the Grade 1-winning hurdler and chaser Upgrade (by Be My Guest) and to the talented but quirky jumper Battle Group (by Beat Hollow).

His fourth dam is the Group 1 Irish 1000 Guineas and Group 1 Yorkshire Oaks heroine Sarah Siddons (by Le Levanstell).

The Ballylinch Stud stallion team also had a notable result on Sunday when two-year-old Candy Store (by Lope De Vega) scored an odds-on success in the Listed Premio Repubbliche Marinare over seven and a half furlongs at Capannelle.

A 19th stakes winner for the sire of 2016 Group 1 stars Belardo and Jemayel, the filly is out of multiple stakes-placed March Madness (by Noverre) and comes from a branch of the distant family of Group 1 winners Bassenthwaite (by Habitat), Keen Hunter (by Diesis) and various others who have won at the highest level.

DUBAWI DAUGHTERS STEP FORWARD

Two daughters of Dalham Hall Stud's Dubawi (by Dubai Millennium) registered the biggest wins of their career on Sunday, both of them three-year-olds representing powerful owner/breeders.

First strike went to the Aga Khan's homebred Shamreen, who took her record to three wins from seven starts with defeat of Best In The World in the Group 2 Moyglare “Jewels” Blandford Stakes over 10 furlongs at the Curragh.

The Dermot Weld-trained bay is entered in next month's Group 1 Qipco British Champions Fillies & Mares Stakes at Ascot, she is the second foal out of Gowran Park Group 3 scorer Shareen (by Bahri) and her dam's siblings include the Group 3 Brigadier Gerard Stakes winner Sharestan (by Shamardal).

This is the family of dual Derby hero Shahrastani (by Nijinsky).

About 35 minutes later, the Wertheimer brothers's Left Hand won the Group 1 Qatar Prix Vermeille over 12 furlongs at Chantilly.

She is trained by Carlos Laffon-Parias and she won the Group 3 Prix Psyche in July, several weeks after failing narrowly to beat La Cressonniere in the Group 1 Prix de Diane (French Oaks).

A half-sister to 10-furlong listed scorer Bilissie (by Dansili), Left Hand is out of the Group 2 Prix de Royallieu winner Balladeuse (by Singspiel).

That mare is a half-sister to the Group 1 Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud heroine Plumania (by Anabaa) and from the famous Group 1-producing family of Groom Dancer (by Blushing Groom), Indian Rose (by General Holme), Le Nain Jeune (by Pharly), Vert Amande (by Kenmare) and Lady Berry (by Violon d'Ingres).

The victory of So Mi Dar in Wednesday's Listed EBF Stallions John Musker Fillies' Stakes was another notable result for Dubawi, especially as Lord Lloyd-Webber's homebred three-year-old was both extending her unbeaten record to four, and defying a penalty for her impressive Group 3 Musidora Stakes victory in May.

The half-sister to multiple pattern-placed colt De Treville (by Oasis Dream) is one of the best-bred horses in training because she is by such an outstanding stallion and out of the triple Group 1 star Dar Re Mi (by Singspiel).

A half-sister to the Group 1 winners Rewilding (by Tiger Hill), Darazari (by Sadler's Wells) and Diaghilev (aka River Dancer) (by Sadler's Wells), Dar Re Mi is out of Darara (by Top Ville), the Group 1-winning half-sister to classic star and influential stallion Darshaan (by Shirley Heights).

DARK ANGEL STRIKES AGAIN

The outstanding run of success for Yeomanstown Stud stallion Dark Angel (by Acclamation) continued last weekend when Ardhoomey won the Group 2 Derrinstown Stud Flying Five Stakes at the Curragh.

A 32nd individual stakes winner for his sire, the Ger Lyons-trained gelding joins a 2016 pattern-race roll of honour that includes Mecca's Angel, Markaz, Divine, Nations Alexander, and Persuasive, and is complemented by a string of listed-race scorers.

The last-named lost her unbeaten record when runner-up to Alice Springs in the Group 1 Coolmore Fastnet Rock Matron Stakes at Leopardstown on Saturday.

Dark Angel's younger daughter Rehana, who is trained by Michael Halford, just missed out on blacktype when finishing fourth in the Group 1 Moyglare Stud Stakes at the Curragh on Sunday, but another Dark Angel juvenile, the Freddy Head-trained Dame Du Roi, did earn blacktype this week as she was an easy winner of the Listed Prix Saraca over six and a half furlongs at Maisons-Laffitte on Monday.

As for Ardhoomey, he was bred by John Quinn, he is a full-brother to a winner and his dam, Moy Joy (by Orpen), stayed middle-distances.

She is out of a half-sister to the Group 1 Prix Saint-Alary winner and Group 1 Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe runner-up Behera (by Mill Reef), and that star's Group 1-placed, Group 2-winning daughter Behkara (by Kris), who was a stayer, is the dam of the Group 1 Grand Prix de Paris winner and Grade 1 Breeders' Cup Turf third Behkabad (by Cape Cross).

Clearly the four-year-old gelding Ardhoomey has inherited the speed of his father!

LUCRATIVE WEEKEND FOR HELMET

- FRESHMAN SIRES UPDATE

Dalham Hall Stud's Group 1 winner and shuttle sire Helmet (by Exceed And Excel) took a big jump up in the sires' championship title race rankings when his gelded son Orewa scooped a first prize of €148,000 for taking the Tattersalls Ireland Super Auction Sale Stakes over the extended six furlongs at the Curragh on Sunday.

The Brian Ellison-trained chestnut was bred by Chantal Regalado-Gonzalez, whose colours were carried to success during Irish Champions Weekend by the fillies Intricately and Zhukova, and he cost just €18,000 in Fairyhouse as a yearling.

He has now won four of his six starts and he is out of Lucky (by Sadler's Wells), the Group 3-winning full-sister to Group 1 2000 Guineas hero and somewhat successful blacktype sire King Of Kings.

Thunder Snow (by Helmet) also did his sire proud as he had the third five lengths behind when a head runner-up to Rivet in the Group 2 At The Races Champagne Stakes over seven furlongs at Doncaster on Saturday.

Dalham Hall Stud is also northern hemisphere home to Sepoy (by Elusive Quality) and his Hugo Palmer-trained daughter Unforgettable Filly looked potentially pattern-class when running away with a seven and a half furlong maiden at Lingfield on Saturday.

Banstead Manor Stud's Timeform 147-rated superstar Frankel (by Galileo) added another one to his tally when Atty Persse made a winning debut over a mile at Sandown on Wednesday.

Bjorn Nielsen's homebred colt is trained by Roger Charlton, entered in the Group 1 Racing Post Trophy, and is the first foal out of Dorcas Lane (by Norse Dancer), a stakes winner from the immediate family of classic stars Harayir (by Gulch) and Give Thanks (by Relko).

The Mick Channon-trained colt Sayesse (by Sayif) notched-up his fourth win of the season when taking the nursery at Chester on Saturday, and he has now earned over four times his purchase price.

Aethos was runner-up in the Listed Premio Rumon over seven and a half furlongs at Capannelle on Sunday, and Dragon Dream got her first win when taking the seven-furlong nursery at Kempton on Monday. They are both by Irish National Stud stallion Dragon Pulse (by Kyllachy).

Appointed (by Delegator) made it two from five when justifying favouritism over a mile at Carlisle on Tuesday. Touched off in a Doncaster nursery on her previous start, the Tim Easterby-trained bay made a winning debut over six furlongs at Ripon in May.

The Richard Fahey-trained gelding Abiento (by Requinto) made it fifth time lucky when scoring over six furlongs at Chester on Saturday, as did Famous Milly (by Famous Name) when she won the valuable premier nursery over a mile at Listowel on Monday, Highland Lotus (by Foxwedge) when scoring over eight and a half furlongs at Wolverhampton that same day, and Broadhaven Honey (by Harbour Watch) when successful over the minimum trip at Beverley on Wednesday.

Prancelina (by Sir Prancelot), on the other hand, was running for the fourth time when opening her account in a five-furlong nursery on that same Wolverhampton card, and so was Trading Punches (by Elzaam) when he scored over seven furlongs at Chepstow on Tuesday.

Ballyhane Stud stallion Elzaam (by Redoute's Choice) then joined the list of freshman sires with a first stakes winner to their name when Group 2-placed daughter Clem's Fandango easily won the Listed Shadwell Stud / EBF Stallions Harry Rosebery Stakes over five furlongs at Ayr on Friday, chased home by the Mayson (by Invincible Spirit) filly Angel Meadow.

Also on Friday, Naval Warfare (by Born To Sea) got off the mark over seven furlongs at Ayr, and Sepoy had a double at Newbury where a debut success for the William Haggas-trained colt Executive Force was followed by a runaway success for the now unbeaten John Gosden-trained dual scorer Dabyah over seven furlongs.
