WHILE he has yet to sire a Group 1 winner, the Darley stallion Poet’s Voice has actually sired three classic winners in his first two crops. In Italy he is responsible for last year’s 2000 Guineas winner Poeta Diletto, while this season his daughter Mi Raccomando landed their 1000 Guineas.
Last weekend in Germany he added to the classic haul when his son Poetic Dream captured the German 2000 Guineas, the Group 2 Mehl-Mulhens-Rennen.
Bred by Rabbah Bloodstock and carrying the colours of Jaber Abdullah, the Irish-foaled Poetic Dream has now won two of his three starts for trainer Andreas Wohler and is the second foal and winner for his Poliglote (Sadler’s Wells) dam Zain Al Boldan. He was preceded by the Aqlaam filly Gold Zain.
Zain Al Boldan also raced for Jaber Abdullah but she was trained by Mick Channon. She won three times at two and three and her biggest success was in the Listed Oaks Trial Stakes at Lingfield. She was placed in the Group 3 Bahrain Trophy at Newmarket and she is also the dam of a two-year-old filly by Dawn Approach. Covered by Sea The Moon, she was sold at the Arqana December Sale in 2015 and subsequently produced a colt by the German Derby winner.
That was Zain Al Boldan’s third visit to a sale ring. Bred in partnership by Tweenhills Stud, she was sold as a foal for 11,000gns and next appeared at the 2010 Goresbridge Breeze-Up Sale from Kilminfoyle House Stud, selling to Gill Richardson for €19,000.
One of a pair of stakes winners from the dual listed winner Carla, Zain Al Boldan is a half-sister to the Group 3 Prix Edmond Blanc winner Svedov who was also placed in four other group races and is now at stud. Carla is a daughter of Cardoun and she is half-sister to another horse who won the Prix Edmond Blanc, the Nikos gelding Golani.
Golani and Carla are siblings to the Pistolet Bleu mare Topira who won a couple of times and she is the dam of Never Forget. This mare by Westerner win the Group 2 Prix de Malleret and is the best runner on the flat by that leading National Hunt sire.
