GLORIOUS Journey is hopefully well named, and he started his career in the best possible way on the racecourse when he won the Margaret Giffen Memorial Novice Stakes at Newmarket on Saturday. In so doing he won a meagre £4,528 in prizemoney, added £7,500 from the Plus 10 Bonus, and netted £25,000 as part of the October Book 1 Bonus.

The total Glorious Journey won came to just over 1% of his purchase price when he was sold as a yearling. He was the joint highest-priced yearling sold in the world last year when he realised 2,600,000gns and was one of three sons of Dubawi to make 2,100,000 or more. He was bred by Philippa Cooper’s Normandie Stud and she consigned him to Tattersalls through Norris Bloodstock, the agents she will use again for her consignment this autumn.

Glorious Journey is the second foal of his dam Fallen For You, the first being the three-year-old New Approach filly Embraceable You. She unfortunately was injured as a foal and is unraced. There is a Frankel yearling colt and a Dubawi colt foal following on. Fallen For You is a daughter of Dansili and was a Group 1 winner.

Trained by John Gosden and racing for Philippa Cooper, Fallen For You won at two and was runner up in the Group 2 May Hill Stakes. The following season she added two more victories, most importantly in the Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot. She is one of five winners from her Brief Truce dam Fallen Star, herself a stakes winner and group-placed, including in the then Group 3 Matron Stakes at Leopardstown.

The rest of Fallen Star’s offspring include the stakes-winning Pivotal colt Fallen Idol, and the Group 2 runner-up Fallen In Love (by Galileo). The latter is the dam of last year’s Group 3 winner Loving Things, by Pivotal. Another of Fallen Star’s daughters is the Fantastic Light mare Shine Like A Star, dam of the 2016 listed winner Light Up Our World, by Zoffany.

Fallen Star is one of a pair of stakes winners from Rise And Fall, a daughter of Mill Reef and from a family that provided great success for Queen Elizabeth. The other blacktype winner was the Bluebird colt Fly To The Stars and he numbered the Group 1 Lockinge Stakes among his six career victories.

The Dubawi success wagon rolls on. Glorious Journey is from his ninth crop and he is the sire of 112 stakes winners, 71 of them at group or graded level. He holds court at Dalham Hall Stud and this year cost £250,000 to breed to – if you could get into him.
