BAROUCHE Stud will send just a single yearling to Part 1 of the Tattersalls Ireland September Yearling Sale, and the March-born daughter of Arcano will be offered on the first day.

Her sale prospects received a major boost recently when her three-year-old full-sister Erysimum won a listed race.Erysimum (Latin for wallflower) is trained by Willie McCreery for owner/breeder Barbara Facchino and she won her third race of 2016 when successful in the Listed Vincent O’Brien Ruby Stakes at Killarney. McCreery’s ability to improve fillies is unquestioned and hopefully he will now be able to win with this filly at group level. It was ultimately a good day’s work when Mrs Facchino and Rory Mathews decided to retain Erysimum at the Goffs Orby Sale in 2014, believing she was worth far more than the €16,000 at which she was unsold. Their judgement was spot on and they have been suitably rewarded.

Erysimum is the fourth foal, fourth runner and third winner for her dam Mathool, a daughter of Alhaarth. The other runner has been placed a number of times. The list of winning offspring is likely to grow in the future. Mathool’s two-year-old is a colt, Bambero, by Dragon Pulse and he is in training with Ed de Giles. He is unraced to date but was sold to SackvilleDonald last year at Newmarket for 34,000gns.The Arcano yearling filly at Fairyhouse is the mare’s sixth produce. Mrs Facchino bought the mare carrying Erysimum for just 48,000gns in 2012. In addition to producing a stakes winner since, the mare’s family has been boosted by the emergence since her purchase of two group winners out of half-sisters to Mathool.

The first of these is the Yeomanstown Stud stallion Gutaifan, winner of the Group 2 Flying Childers Stakes and Prix Robert Papin and runner-up in the Group 1 Prix Morny. The son of Dark Angel commanded a fee of €12,500 for his first season at stud.

The second is the recent Deauville Group 3 winner Ventura Storm, by Zoffany, also a dual listed winner in Britain.

Yet another half-sister to Mathool is the winning Nashwan mare Nasanice, dam of the two-time Group 2 Hardwicke Stakes winner Maraahel. He also performed with distinction in Group 1 company, being placed in the Juddmonte International, Champion Stakes, Coronation Cup, King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes and the Hong Kong Cup.

Mathool is currently in foal to the Epsom Derby winner Ruler Of The World.

She will be offered for sale in December at Tattersalls, a long term plan for her since her purchase. Barouche Stud now has the added bonus of having her stakes-winning daughter as a future broodmare prospect also.
