SOME weeks ago I wrote about the debut win for Mubtasim at Yarmouth and said “he should step up in class and his next start will be most informative.” So it was and it resulted in win number two for the son of Arcano. A puzzling display in the Gimcrack Stakes was banished when the colt made his fourth start in the Weatherbys Hamilton £300,000 Stakes at Doncaster, winning from a big field.

This victory brought his earnings to some £156,000 and the colt now has some tasty options again in group company before his yearling half-sister by Power comes under the hammer in Book 2 of the Tattersalls October Sale in Newmarket. There she is catalogued from Voute Sales as agent for Doug Rawnsley.

It was Rawnsley who also pinhooked Mubtasim, bred by Natasha Drennan and sold from Windy Farm at Goffs for €22,000 as a foal. Rawnsley received 38,000gns as a yearling for the colt from Rabbah Bloodstock and the colt races now for Sheikh Rashid Dalmook Al Maktoum.

The Power half-sister cost just €10,500 as a foal and it is reasonable to expect that Rabbah will be among the many who will have her earmarked for inspection in a few weeks’ time. Mubtasim is a son of the King’s Best mare Start The Music, a winner in France and dam of a previous multiple two-year-old winner in Stec, a son of Bushranger.

Start The Music is one of seven winners out of the Green Dancer mare Beguine, the best of which was the Group 1 Phoenix Stakes runner-up Big Time, by Kheleyf. Beguine is also the dam of the stakes-placed duo Master Papa (by Key Of Luck) and Liss Ard, a son of In The Wings.

While Beguine did not win or even get placed she did have eight winning siblings and they were headed by Grand Lodge. The champion of his generation in Europe at two and one of the very best the next year too, Grand Lodge won the Dewhurst Stakes and the St James’s Palace Stakes. He was second in the 2000 Guineas and the Champion Stakes and in both cases was only denied by a short head.

Grand Lodge had two stakes winning half-sisters and a couple of his other siblings bred stakes winners.

Look out for Lot 1085 in Book 2 of Tattersalls. She is one to note.
