JULY MEETING – DAY ONE

Big Orange (by Duke Of Marmalade) scored a repeat win in the Group 2 Princess of Wales's Arqana Racing Club Stakes. The Michael Bell-trained gelding was bred by Stetchworth & Middle Park Studs, he is out of Miss Brown To You (by Fasliyev), his immediate relations include the Grade 1 stars and multimillionaires Red Cadeaux (by Cadeaux Genereux) and Military Attack (by Oratorio), and he is a direct descendant of Group 1 Irish 1000 Guineas heroine Al Bahathri (by Blushing Groom).

Group 3 Bahrain Trophy winner Housesofparliament (by Galileo) is trained by Aidan O'Brien and bred by Smithfield Inc. He is out of Grade 1 winner Sharp Lisa (by Dixieland Band), who is a half-sister to Grade 1 scorer Spring At Last (by Silver Deputy) and to Grade 1-placed Grade 2 winner Sharp Susan (by Touch Gold).

The Richard Hannon-trained juvenile Mehmas won the Group 2 Arqana July Stakes. The son of Rathbarry Stud stallion Acclamation (by Royal Applause) was bred by Epona Bloodstock Ltd, he is out of Lucina (by Machiavellian), and comes from the immediate family of the Group 1 stars Luso (by Salse) and Warrsan (by Caerleon).

Last year's juvenile star Lumiere bounced back in style to take the Listed Plusvital Sir Henry Cecil Stakes by six lengths. The Mark Johnston-trained grey, a Darley-bred daughter of Kildangan Stud stallion Shamardal (by Giants's Causeway), is out of Screen Star (by Tobougg), who is a direct descendant of Grade 1 Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies winner Outstandingly (by Exclusive Native).

GROUP 1 FIRST FOR KITTEN'S JOY

Kenneth and Sarah Ramsey's homebred star Kitten's Joy (by El Prado), the US champion sire who stands at their Ramsey Farm, notched-up his first European Group 1 winner when Hawkbill took the Coral-Eclipse at Sandown on Saturday.

Godolphin owns the white-faced chesnut, a three-year-old trained by Charlie Appleby, and the $350,000 Keeneland September Yearling Sale graduate was bred by the Helen K Groves Revokable Trust.

He has won the last six of his eight starts, got his earliest wins on the all-weather tracks, and his blacktype-placed dam, Trensa (by Giant's Causeway), is out of Grade 1 Ballerina Handicap scorer Serape (by Fappiano).

The next dam is Mochilla (by In Reality), a multiple Grade 1-placed prolific filly whose siblings included Eclipse Award winner and Grade 1 Breeders' Cup Mile star Cozzene (by Caro). His progeny include the 1991 Coral-Eclipse Stakes winner Environment Friend.

GROUP 1 WINNER FOR SILVER FROST

Classic-winning miler Silver Frost (by Verglas), who stands at Haras de la Hetraie, got his first winner at the highest level when Silverwave won the Group 1 Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud over 12 furlongs on Sunday.

The Pascal Bary-trained colt was bred by the partnership of Marie-Laure Collet, Jean Collet and Marylene Collet, he was previously a member of the Alain Couetil stable, and he is a half-brother to the classic-placed Group 1 Prix Jean-Prat scorer Stormy River (by Verglas).

Their dam, Miss Bio (by River Mist), is a half-sister to the US Grade 3 winner Fantastic Filly (by Myrakalu), their fourth dam is the Prix de Royallieu scorer Riverside (by Sheshoon), and so their family connnections also include that mare's star daughter Riverqueen (by Luthier).

Her Group 1 treble consisted of the Poule d'Essai des Pouliches (French 1000 Guineas), the Prix Saint-Alary, and, like her younger relation, the Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud.

ENDLESS STARS

Timeform 140-rated champion and Gilltown Stud stallion Sea The Stars (by Cape Cross) got his seventh individual pattern winner of the year when Endless Time won the Group 2 Bet 365 Lancashire Oaks over 12 furlongs at Haydock on Saturday.

Five of that septet are three-year-olds and they headed by the dual Derby hero Harzand.

Endless Time is a four-year-old trained by Charlie Appleby, she was bred by Mabaki Investments, and she made 180,000gns in Newmarket as a yearling. Godolphin's filly is a potential candidate for next month's Group 1 Yorkshire Oaks and her six wins from eight starts include an easy listed success at Naas in October.

Her dam, Mamonta (by Fantastic Light), is a half-sister to Group 2 Prix de Royallieu scorer Mouramara (by Kahyasi), dam of the classic-placed Australian Group 1 victor Mourayan (by Alhaarth) and of Group 1 Melbourne Cup-placed listed winner Mourilyan (by Desert Prince).

Group 1 Poule d'Essai des Pouliches (French 1000 Guineas) heroine Masarika (by Thatch) appears further back in the pedigree, which has branches that lead to the Group/Grade 1-winning fillies Sulk (by Selkirk) and Dank (by Danehill).

PERFECT 10 FOR ZOFFANY

Coolmore Stud's Group 1 star and exciting second crop stallion Zoffany (by Dansili) took his tally of stakes winners to 10 with a notable weekend double.

Zodiac Ruler won the Grade 2 Durban Golden Horseshoe over seven furlongs at Greyville, in South Africa, and Light Up Our World sprang a surprise in the Listed Coral Distaff over a mile at Sandown.

Zodiac Ruler, an Australian-born juvenile, was bred by Fowler Thoroughbreds Pty Ltd, he is out of Sybarite (by Last Tycoon), and that makes him a half-brother to Almighty Girl (by Beneteau), who won a six-furlong Group 3 contest at Moonee Valley earlier in the year.

His pattern-winning grandam Procrastinate (by Jade Hunter) is also responsible for five-times South African Grade 1 star Laisserfaire (by Danehill), for the pattern scorer A Time For Julia (by Redoute's Choice), Group 1-placed multiple stakes winner Foreplay (by Danehill), and Group 1 Caulfield Guineas runner-up Time Thief (by Redoute's Choice).

Derek Boocock's homebred three-year-old Light Up Our World is trained by Richard Hannon and she is a half-sister to Light Up My Life (by Zamindar), who was runner-up in the Group 3 Oh So Sharp Stakes and third in the Group 2 May Hill Stakes as a juvenile.

The fourth foal and fourth winner out of Shine Like A Star (by Fantastic Light), her dam is a half-sister to the Group 1 Coronation Stakes heroine Fallen For You (by Dansili), to mile listed scorer Fallen Idol (by Pivotal) and to Group 2 Lancashire Oaks runner-up Fallen In Love (by Galileo).

Her grandam, Fallen Star (by Brief Truce), was a dual Group 3-placed mile stakes winner on the track, is one of five stakes horses for her dam, Rise And Fall (by Mill Reef), and is a half-sister to the Group 1-winning miler Fly To The Stars (by Bluebird).

FRESHMAN SIRES

Several freshman sires were represented by winners in the first few days of July.

On Tuesday evening, the great Frankel (by Galileo) made it five winners from five runners when Majoris scored over seven furlongs at Brighton. Al Asayl Bloodstock Ltd's homebred colt is trained by Hugo Palmer, he is the first foal out of Drops (by Kingmambo). She is a half-sister to the Group 2 scorer Alex My Boy (by Dalakhani) and to this year's listed scorer and Oaks fourth Somehow (by Fastnet Rock).

Majoris is a grandson of the dual Oaks heroine Alexandrova, which makes him inbred 3x3 to her sire Sadler's Wells (by Northern Dancer).

Then Seven Heavens (by Frankel) made it six with a winning debut at Ascot on Friday. That John Gosden-trained bay was bred by Cheveley Park Stud and his dam, Heaven Sent (by Pivotal), is a Group 3-winning full-sister to Grade 1 scorer Megahertz.

The Kevin Ryan-trained Fields Of Song (by Harbour Watch) made a winning debut over five furlongs at Beverley on Saturday. The Ballyreddin Stud-bred filly, who made €42,000 in Goffs as a yearling and €52,000 at Goresbridge in May, is the third winner out of Spring Field (by Singspiel).

Her dam is an unraced full-sister to the Grade 1-placed stakes winner Fast And Furious and half-sister to the 12-furlong Grade 2 scorer Herboriste (by Hernando).

Harbour Watch (by Acclamation) then made it a double when the Card Bloodstock-bred Mr Hobbs won over six furlongs at Newbury on Thursday. His dam is out of Group 3 winner Tropical (by Green Desert) and so is a half-sister to the dam of Group 1 Prix de l'Abbaye de Longchamp scorer Move In Time (by Monsieur Bond).

Michael O'Callaghan owns and trains Take A Deep Breath (by Bated Breath), who won easily over six furlongs at Naas on Sunday. Bred by Chris Mills, and a 17,000gns foal in Newmarket, the filly is out of Fatal Attraction (by Oasis Dream), a full-sister to Mills's pattern-winning sprinter Mirza.

Her multiple pattern-winning grandam, Millyant (by Primo Dominie), was a half-sister to the top-class sprinter and successful sire Prince Sabo (by Young Generation).

A pair of nurseries went to sons of freshman sires on Wednesday.

The Roger Varian-trained Maazel (by Elzaam) is bred by Myles Haughney, is inbred 4x3 to Danzig (by Northern Dancer), comes from the family of Group 1 winner and leading young sire Zoffany (by Dansili), and scored over five furlongs at Lingfield.

Then Mrs H Steel's homebred colt Springforth (by Mayson), who has not been out of the frame in five starts, won over six furlongs at Catterick. The Richard Fahey-trained chesnut is the first foal out of Spirit Na Heireann (by Dubawi), a half-sister to the Group 1-placed Grade 2 scorer Barefoot Lady (by Footstepsinthesand).

On Thursday evening, Madam Dancealot (by Sir Prancealot), who comes from the family of Group 2 winner and Grade 1 Champion Hurdle hero Alderbrook (by Ardross), won a six-furlong maiden at Newbury.

That same day, Broken Stones (by Requinto) was third in the Group 2 Arqana July Stakes at Newmarket. He comes from the family of triple Group 1 star Intrepidity (by Sadler's Wells).
