SIXTH GROUP 1 STAR FOR NEW APPROACH

Juvenile champion, Derby hero and Dalham Hall Stud stallion New Approach (by Galileo) notched up his sixth winner at the highest level when Potemkin won the Group 1 Premio Roma GBI Racing over 10 furlongs at Capannelle on Sunday.

The Andreas Wohler-trained five-year-old, who was bred by Gestut Fahrhof, has been lightly raced, he finished a close third to Elliptique (by New Approach) in the Group 1 Grosser Dallmayr-Preis – Bayersiches Zuchtrennen over the same trip at Munich in late July, won the Group 2 Prix Dollar at Chantilly last month, and now has four pattern wins to his name.

The gelding is a half-brother to the pattern-placed stakes-winning miler Paraisa (by Red Ransom) and he is out of the stakes-placed Praia (by Big Shuffle), who is a half-sister to the Group 2 Preis der Diana (German Oaks) winner Puntilla (by Acatenango) and also to Paita (by Intikhab).

That filly won the Group 1 Criterium de Saint-Cloud and Group 3 Prix Allez France, and she was third in both the Group 1 Prix de Diane (French Oaks) and Group 1 Prix Vermeille.

New Approach's tally of 29 stakes winners includes the classic stars Dawn Approach (first yearlings) and Talent, this year's Group 2 scorers Beautiful Romance and Nearly Caught, and also the Derby-placed Group 2 scorer Libertarian, whose first foals are on offer now.

NEW GROUP 1 SIRE SON FOR DANSILI

Stallion sons of Banstead Manor Stud ace Dansili (by Danehill) are becoming very popular and they include leading European second crop sire Zoffany, who got his first Group 1 winner last month.

They also include the former Sir Michael Stoute-trained Group 2 Celebration Mile scorer Zacinto, a grandson of Group 1 Oaks heroine Reams Of Verse (by Nureyev) and now the sire of his first winner at the highest level.

Ugo Foscolo, who represents his first crop, won the Group 1 Sothys 44th New Zealand 2000 Guineas over a mile at Riccarton Park on Saturday, adding to prior Group 2 and listed race wins.

The Stephen Marsh-trained gelding is out of Bequests (by Stravinsky), whose string of winning siblings includes multiple listed scorer Green Roller (by Flying Spur), and his grandam is the stakes-winning sprinter Given (by Canny Lad).

A half-sister to two blacktype-placed prolific winners, Given comes from a family full of blacktype scorers, although Ugo Foscolo is the best horse within the first four generations of his pedigree.

Zacinto stands at Inglewood Stud in New Zealand, the farm that bred the stallion's first Group 1 star, and his initial crop also includes the stakes-winning filly Zigwig.

FIFTH PATTERN WINNER FOR FRANKEL

Timeform 147-rated superstar Frankel (by Galileo) has made an exciting start to his career at Banstead Manor Stud and he notched up a fifth pattern winner from his first juveniles when Mi Suerte justified favouritism in the Group 3 KBS Kyoto Sho Fantasy Stakes over seven furlongs at Kyoto on Saturday.

Bred in Japan by Northern Farm and trained by Yasutoshi Ikee, Mi Suerte is a daughter of the Grade 1 Debutante Stakes and Grade 3 Sorrento Stakes winner Mi Sueno (by Pulpit) and her grandam is the Grade 1 Ashland Stakes winner and Grade 1 Kentucky Oaks third Madcap Escapade (by Hennessy).

That latter star, who was also a triple Grade 2 scorer at six to seven furlongs, is a half-sister to Dubai Escapade (by Awesome Again), who was a wide-margin winner of the Grade 1 Ballerina Stakes, Grade 2 Madison Stakes and Grade 2 Vagrancy Handicap.

Frankel's first crop also includes Group 2 Lowther Stakes winner Queen Kindly and the Group 3 scorers Fair Eva, Frankuus and Toulifaut, as well as the multiple stakes-placed Cunco.

FIRST PATTERN WINNER FOR DRAGON PULSE

Irish National Stud stallion Dragon Pulse (by Kyllachy), one of the year's leading freshman sires, notched up his first pattern winner when Aethos ran away with the Group 3 Premio Guido Berardelli over nine furlongs at Capannelle on Sunday.

The Stefano Botti-trained colt was bred by Massimo Parri, he is a half-brother to the stakes-placed middle-distance horse Ponticelli (by King Charlemagne) and is out of Quela (by Acatenango).

His dam is a half-sister to the Group 1-placed stakes winner Quezon City (by Law Society) and the notable horses who can be found in various branches of his family include the Group/Grade 1 scorers Mille Et Mille (by Muhtathir), Desert Blanc (by Desert Style), Spadoun (by Kaldoun) and Satwa Queen (by Muhtathir).

Group 1-placed Group 2 scorer Dragon Pulse's double-digit tally of first-crop juvenile winners includes the Group 2-placed listed scorer Legendary Lunch, Group 2-placed Magical Fire, and the listed-placed duo Lady Beware and Megan Lily.

GRADED NAAS DOUBLE FOR SCORPION

There was a blacktype double at Naas on Sunday for the triple Group 1 winner Scorpion (by Montjeu), the classic star who recently moved from Castle Hyde Stud to Shade Oak Stud in Shropshire and who comes from the family of Ardross.

Tell Us More won the Grade 3 Brady's Family Ham Supporting Kildare GAA Poplar Square Chase over two miles and then Sir Scorpion took the Grade C Paddy Osborne Memorial Brown Lad Handicap Hurdle over a half-mile farther.

The Gordon Elliott-trained Tell Us More carries the famous Gigginstown House Stud colours, he was bred by Tim Conroy and made €27,000 at the Goffs Landrover NH Sale in 2012.

He made a winning debut in a point-to-point at Tattersalls Farm almost 18 months later and just days before fetching £290,000 at the Brightwells Cheltenham Sale.

He is a half-brother to the point-to-point, hurdles and chase scorer By The Banks and his dam, Zara's Victory (by Old Vic) is out of a winning half-sister to several blacktype horses including 1999's Irish Grand National hero Glebe Lad (by Le Bavard) and the Grade 3-winning chase mare Stashedaway (by Treasure Hunter).

Sir Scorpion carries the famous J.P. McManus colours and the Tom Mullins-trained seven-year-old was bred by Aisling Fitzpatrick.

A €14,500 graduate of the Tattersalls Ireland Derby Sale, his unraced dam Lady Goldilocks (by Mister Lord) is a half-sister to a couple of winners and the string of blacktype horses that appear under the next two generations of the family, and their branches, includes Sonnyanjoe (by Roselier), Thats My Man (by Remainder Man), Spirit Leader (by Supreme Leader), Crocodiles Rock (by Heron Island), Folsom Blue (by Old Vic), Prince Of Scars (by Flemensfirth) and Hazy Dawn (by Offiicial).

FLEMINGTON TREBLE FOR COOLMORE SIRES

Three of Coolmore Stud's sons of Danehill were represented by big-race winners at Flemington on Saturday, headed by the Group 1 Emirates Stakes victory of Awesome Rock (by Fastnet Rock).

Previously a Group 2 and listed winner, the five-year-old is out of the classic-placed Group 3 scorer Awesome Planet (by Giant's Causeway) and his three-year-old half-brother Earth (by Redoute's Choice) finished third in a mile listed contest at Randwick last month.

His third dam, Band Of Angels (by Alzao), is a half-sister to Group 1 Derby hero Dr Devious (by Ahonoora), to leading Japanese sprinter Shinko King (by Fairy King) and to the high-class sprinter Archway (by Thatching).

Three-quarters of an hour earlier, Jessy Belle (by Rock Of Gibraltar) sprang a 25/1 surprise in the Group 2 7News Matriarch Stakes, also over 10 furlongs, a first pattern success for the six-year-old daughter of Unconditional Love (by Elusive Quality).

Her grandam is the Group 1 winner and champion Flitter (by Bluebird), her third dam is the stakes-placed multiple sprint winner Kiwi Magic (by Vice Regal), and her relations include the pattern scorer and Group 1 Queensland Oaks runner-up Marheta (by Al Maher).

The first leg of the Coolmore sires treble was provided by the former Aiden O'Brien-trained gelding Francis Of Assisi (by Danehill Dancer), a 10-length winner of the Group 3 Queen Elizabeth Stakes over 13 furlongs.

He won over six furlongs at Naas as a juvenile, was a seven-furlong listed scorer at Leopardstown at three, won three times over hurdles for the John Ferguson stable, and is now a dual Australian pattern winner for Charlie Appleby.

The six-year-old was bred by the Queen Cleopatra Syndicate and he is a full-brother to the Group 2-placed stakes winner Look At Me, who is the dam of the mile listed scorer King Of Magic (by Galileo).

His dam, Queen Cleopatra (by Kingmambo) won a mile Group 3 at Leopardstown before taking third in both the Group 1 Irish 1000 Guineas and Group 1 Prix de Diane (French Oaks), and she is a full-sister to the Group 1 star and sire Henrythenavigator.

His grandam is, therefore, the Group 1 Moyglare Stud Stakes heroine Sequoyah (by Sadler's Wells), a full-sister to Group 1 Fillies' Mile scorer Listen.

GALILEO BLUEBLOODS MAKE WINNING DEBUTS

Two of the best-bred juveniles in training made their debuts in nine-furlong maidens on the polytrack at Chantilly on Wednesday and the names Aim True and Terrakova could become very well known in 2017. Both are by Galileo (by Sadler's Wells).

Aim True is trained by Andre Fabre, he was bred by Western Bloodstock and he is out of the speedy stakes winner Lahinch (by Danehill Dancer). That makes him a half-brother to the Group 3 scorers The Bogberry (by Hawk Wing) and Liscanna (by Sadler's Wells).

The latter is the dam of the Group/Grade 1 stars Brave Anna (by War Front) and Hit It A Bomb (by War Front).

Terrakova is a Wertheimer brothers homebred, she is trained by Freddy Head, and she is the first foal out of the great Goldikova (by Anabaa).

That Timeform 133-rated champion and triple Grade 1 Breeders' Cup Mile heroine is a full-sister to the Group 1-placed pattern scorer and Timeform 124-rated Haras du Quesnay stallion Anodin, whose first foals are on offer now.

Goldikova's siblings also include the classic-placed Group 1 Prix Vermeille winner Galikova (by Galileo) and the pattern scorers Gold Sound (by Green Tune) and Gold Round (by Caerleon).

Born Gold (by Blushing Groom), the grandam of Terrakova, is a full-sister to the classic-placed mile Group 1 star Gold Splash, she is out of the classic-placed Group 1 scorer Riviere d'Or (by Lyphard), and that star is, in turn, out of the Group 1 Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe heroine Gold River (by Riverman).

FRESHMAN UPDATE

The Group 3 wins of Mi Suerte (by Frankel) and Aethos (by Dragon Pulse), in Japan and Italy respectively, were the freshman highlights of the week, but there was also a notable blacktype result for Newsells Park Stud stallion Nathaniel (by Galileo), who supplied both the second and third in the Group 3 Grosser Preis von Link in Krefeld der Tolke & Fischer Gruppe.

The eight and a half furlong contest was won by Colomano (by Cacique), but Kastano and Enjoy Vijay filled the places, finishing a head apart.

The former is out of Kastila (by Sternkonig), which makes him a half-brother to the Group 1 Al Maktoum Challenge R3 runner-up Kassiano (by Soldier Hollow) and also to three-year-old filly Kasalla (by Soldier Hollow), who was a close third to Nightflower in the Group 1 Preis von Europa at Cologne in late September.

Enjoy Vijay is the first foal out of mile listed scorer Enjoy The Life (by Medicean) and his grandam is a half-sister to the Group 2 Geoffrey Freer Stakes winner Lochbuie (by Definite Article).

Dalham Hall Stud shuttle stallion Sepoy (by Elusive Quality), who has the Group 3 winner Kilmah, pattern-placed listed scorer Baileys Showgirl, Group 1-placed Dabyah and Group 3-placed Unforgetable Filly among the northern hemisphere half of his global first crop, was represented this week by Indian Blessing.

The Ed Walker-trained filly, who was runner-up on her debut at Chelmsford last month, justified favourisitm over seven furlongs at Newcastle on Tuesday.

She was bred by Jocelyn Targett, made €95,000 at the Arqana August Deauville Yearling Sale and €170,000 at the Arqana May 2yo Breeze-Up, and she is a half-sister to the stakes-placed pair Montalbano (by Monsieur Bond) and Glade (by Bertolini).

Her winning dam, Alpen Glen (by Halling), is out of a half-sister to Annaba (by In The Wings), Anna Of Saxony (by Ela-Mana-Mou) and Pozarica (by Rainbow Quest).

Group 1 Irish St Leger winner Jukebox Jury (by Montjeu), who stands at Gestut Etzean, added to his string of first-crop juvenile winners when Dominating was a winning joint-favourite in the mile nursery at Kempton on Wednesday.

Red Guana (by Famous Name) got off the mark over seven furlongs at Southwell on Thursday, an hour before Spin Doctor (by Mayson) took her record to three wins from eight starts with victory in the six-furlong nursery.
