MINDING SPEARHEADS GALILEO TREBLE

The Group 1 Sea The Stars Pretty Polly Stakes victory of Minding was part of a big-race treble for Coolmore Stud's Galileo (by Sadler's Wells) at the Curragh on Sunday, each one trained by Aidan O'Brien.

Minding, a daughter of Group 1-winning miler Lillie Langtry (by Danehill Dancer),was reviewed here in detail in the 19th September 2015 edition of The Irish Field.

Her win was preceded by Group 3 Finlay Volvo International Stakes success for the Newsells Park Stud-bred Sir Isaac Newton, a full-brother to the unlucky dual classic-placed Group 2 scorer Secret Gesture and out of Shastye (by Danehill), a stakes-winning half-sister to Group 1 Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe star Sagamix (by Linamix).

Later, the Glenvale Stud-bred Sword Fighter advertised his Group 1 St Leger potential with victory in the Group 2 coral.ie Curragh Cup over 14 furlongs. The half-brother to dual listed scorer Big Audio (by Oratorio) is out of Tarbela (by Grand Lodge), a daughter of speedy classic-placed pattern winner Tarwiya (by Dominion).

DARK ANGEL TREBLE

Yeomanstown Stud's leading sire Dark Angel (by Acclamation) had a blacktype treble on Saturday, with the first leg provided by Markaz in the Group 3 Betfred Chipchase Stakes over six furlongs at Newcastle.

Out of the speedy Folga (by Atraf), and so a full-brother to Group 1 Nunthorpe Stakes heroine Mecca's Angel, the Owen Burrows-trained colt is a £200,000 Doncaster graduate whom Yeomanstown bred in partnership with Doc Bloodstock.

About 50 minutes later the Richard Hannon-trained juvenile Nations Alexander won the Listed Cambridge Magazine Supporting The AHT Empress Stakes over the same trip at Newmarket. The 50,000gns Tattersalls October Sale graduate was bred by Oakhill Stud and her dam, Party Whip (by Whipper), comes from the family of Irish 1000 Guineas heroine Front Row (by Epaulette).

An hour after that, the Richard Fahey-trained Gabrial won the Listed Sky Bet Midsummer Stakes over eight and a half furlongs at Windsor, a second blacktype success for the Group 1-placed gelding.

The Brian Kennedy-trained seven-year-old is out of Guajira (by Mtoto), a multiple winning half-sister to the US Grade 2 scorers Jaunatxo (by Lyphard's Wish) and Iron Deputy (by Silver Deputy).

GROUP 2 WIN FOR EQUIANO

Newsells Park Stud stallion Equiano (by Acclamation) is by the sire of Dark Angel and he got his ninth stakes winner when Medicine Jack won the Group 2 GAIN Railway Stakes at the Curragh on Saturday.

The Ger Lyons-trained juvenile was bred by Downfield Cottage Stud, he is a half-brother to the mile stakes winner Agony And Ecstasy (by Captain Rio), and his dam, Agony Aunt (by Formidable), comes from the immediate family of Group 1 star and outstanding stallion Deep Impact (by Sunday Silence).

IRISH SIRES

Sea The Stars (by Cape Cross), Arakan (by Nureyev) and Shamardal (by Giant's Causeway) were among the Irish stallions with blacktype winners last weekend.

Harzand (by Sea The Stars) pushed his sire past the £2 million mark in seasonal earnings when adding the Group 1 Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby to his prior success in the Group 1 Investec Derby at Epsom.

The Aga Khan's homebred colt is trained by Dermot Weld, he is out of Hazariya (by Xaar), his siblings include Group 3 scorer Harasiya (by Pivotal) and listed race winner Hazarafa (by Daylami), and I reviewed his pedigree in detail in the 16th April edition of The Irish Field.

Ballyhane Stud's Arakan was represented by Listed Dubai Duty Free Millenium Millionaire Celebration Stakes winner Sruthan. The Paul Deegan-trained gelding cost just €1,000 in Fairyhouse as a yearling, the prolific blacktype scorer was bred by Messers J, R & J Hyland, and the son of Giveupyeraulsins (by Mark Of Esteem) is a half-brother to multiple sprint winner Srucahan (by Kheleyf).

Sruthan, who pedigree I reviewed in The Irish Field after his first pattern success, comes from the family of Group 1 Oaks heroine Shahtoush (by Alzao).

Kildangan Stud's Shamardal moved on to 96 stakes winners when Toscanini won the Listed Dubai Duty Free Jumeriah Creekside Dash Stakes over six furlongs at the Curragh. The Darley-bred gelding is trained by Michael Halford, he is a half-brother to the Grade 2-placed miler Tybalt (by Storm Cat), and he is out of the Grade 1 winner and Breeders' Cup Mile runner-up Tuzla (by Panoramic).

MISTY FOR ME'S TALENTED DAUGHTER

The Aidan O'Brien-trained Roly Poly won the Group 3 Grangecon Stud Stakes over six furlongs at the Curragh on Sunday, a second juvenile pattern winner of the year for Claiborne Farm stallion War Front (by Danzig), following Group 3 Albany Stakes scorer Brave Anna

Roly Poly is the second foal out of the multiple Group 1 star Misty For Me (by Galileo), her dam is a full-sister to the classic-placed Group 1 winner Ballydoyle, and her grandam is a half-sister to juvenile Group 1 ace and successful sire Fasliyev (by Nureyev).

GOOD WEEK FOR FRESHMAN SIRES

Coolmore Stud's Power (by Oasis Dream) had two blacktype horses last weekend.

Stakes winner Peace Envoy, a €125,000 Arqana graduate whose dam, Hoh My Darling (by Dansili), comes from the family of the great Dahlia (by Vaguely Noble), was runner-up in the Group 2 GAIN Railway Stakes at the Curragh.

Then Biz Power, a half-brother to Group 1 winner Biz The Nurse (by Oratorio) and to Group 2 scorer Biz Heart (by Roderic O'Connor), was runner-up in the Group 3 Premio Primi Passi over six furlongs at San Siro.

That same day, the James Tate-trained Seafront (by Foxwedge) was a neck runner-up in the Group 3 Grangecon Stud Stakes at the Curragh. She is out of Locharia (by Wolfhound), a winning half-sister to the Group 1 sprint stars Lochsong (by Song) and Lochangel (by Night Shift).

Foxwedge (by Fastnet Rock) was also represented by Urban Fox and Tap Tap Boom.

The former maintained her unbeaten record at Kempton on Wednesday evening, this time winning over seven furlongs. Also trained by Tate, she is out of Lomapamar (by Nashwan), a winning half-sister to Group 1-placed Group 2 scorer Mons (by Deploy).

Tap Tap Boom, who won over seven furlongs at Epsom on Thursday evening, is trained by George Baker, was bred by London Thoroughbred Services Ltd, and is out of Exclusive Approval (by With Approval). He comes from the immediate family of the Group 1 St Leger winner Lucarno (by Dynaformer).

Several other freshman sires added to their tallies of wins and winners.

Rosabelle (by Mayson), out of Kirk (by Selkirk), is a half-sister to Group 2 Lancashire Oaks third Natalie Jane (by Giant's Causeway) and she won at Chester on Saturday.

Her sire also struck on Thursday when Cheveley Park Stud's homebred colt Nobly Born won over six furlongs at Yarmouth. The John Gosden-trained chesnut is out of Noble One (by Primo Dominie), which makes him a half-brother to the dual Group 1-winning miler Peeress (by Pivotal).

Pretty Vacant (by Elzaam) made it two wins from four starts with an odds-on success at Lingfield. He is out of Jillolini (by Bertolini) and his fourth dam is US Grade 1 Matron Stakes heroine Prayers's Promises (by Foolish Pleasure).

The Sir Michael Stoute-trained Taamol (by Helmet), a 140,000gns Tattersalls October Yearling Sale graduate, made a winning debut over seven furlongs at Newmarket. His dam, Supreme Seductress (by Montjeu), is a half-sister to Group 1 Oaks d'Italia scorer Menhoubah (by Dixieland Band).

Then Baileys Showgirl (by Sepoy), a half-sister to listed scorer Tribune (by Grand Slam), won easily at Hamilton, and Sir Dreamalot (by Sir Prancealot) got off the mark over seven furlongs at Sligo.

SEVENTH GROUP/GRADE 1 WINNER FOR HOLY ROMAN EMPEROR

Coolmore Stud's Holy Roman Emperor (by Danehill), who recently reached the notable landmark of 100 individual stakes winners, got his seventh one at the highest level when Brazilian-bred juvenile Maraton took the Grade 1 Grande Premio Farewell over a mile at Cidade Jardim, in Brazil, on Saturday.

The colt was bred by Haras Santa Camila, he is out of the blacktype scorer Virgo Dancer (by Fantastic Dancer), and his dam's siblings include the dual Grade 2-winning miler Scalinatella (by Public Purse).

AUSTRALIAN SUCCESS

Former French-trained gelding Index Linked won a Grade 3 handicap over 11 furlongs at Eagle Farm on Saturday, a third blacktype success for the Juddmonte Farms-bred son of Banstead Manor Stud stallion Dansili (by Danehill) and his first at this level.

The Chris Waller-trained eight-year-old is a half-brother to the Grade 2 Monksfield Novice Hurdle winner Fully Funded (by Aptitude) and to the multiple stakes-placed filly Gainful (by Gone West). His listed-placed dam, Fully Invested (by Irish River), is a half-sister to Mickley Stud's pattern-winning stallion Multiplex (by Danehill) and comes from the famous family of Group 1 stars Warning (by Known Fact), Commander In Chief (by Dancing Brave), Yashmak (by Danzig), Rainbow Quest (by Blushing Groom) and Scenic (by Sadler's Wells).
