Yeomanstown Stud stallion Dark Angel (by Acclamation) took his blacktype tally to 26 when Vona became the first juvenile stakes winner of the year and she was one of three listed scorers for him that week.

She was joined at York by Easton Angel, who was dual Group 2-placed last year, but the most impressive of the trio ran away with the Listed Toronado Carnarvon Stakes over six furlongs at Newbury on Saturday.

The Richard Hannon-trained Log Out Island was a wide-margin debut winner at Ascot 13 months ago, he was placed in the Norfolk Stakes, Railway Stakes, Flying Childers Stakes and Mill Reef Stakes – all Group 2 – and won the Listed Two-Year-Old Trophy at Redcar.

He wore a hood for the first time on Saturday, made all to win by three and a quarter lengths, and received quotes of around 8/1 for next month’s Group 1 Commonwealth Cup at Ascot.

He was bred by Yeomanstown Stud, is a £95,000 Doncaster Premier Yearling Sale graduate, and he is out of White Daffodil (by Footstepsinthesand), a dual-winning half-sister to three blacktype horses and out of a winning half-sister to a Group 1 star.

Dual stakes winner Lady Links (by Bahamian Bounty), who also won the Listed Carnarvon Stakes, is the best of the trio and she is the dam of the dual stakes-winning miler Selinka (by Selkirk).

Her dam, Sparky’s Song (by Electric), was out of Daring Ditty (by Daring March, which made her a half-sister to blacktype-winning full-brothers Brave Edge (by Beveled) and Bold Edge.

The latter won the Group 1 Prix Maurice de Gheest, the Group 2 Diadem Stakes and a couple of listed races, he chased home Stravinsky in the Group 1 July Cup, and his progeny include talented performers such as Assertive and Edge Closer.

If Log Out Island lives up to his potential and picks up one or more pattern races then that, plus his relationship to Bold Edge, could see him join Lethal Force, Alhebayeb, Gutaifan and Heeraat as yet another stallion son for Dark Angel.
