OFF Limits won the Listed Cairn Rouge Stakes at Killarney a couple of years ago when trained by David Wachman. She then transferred to Chad Brown’s stable in the USA and this year has hit form again, finishing second in the Perfect Sting Stakes at Belmont Park before stepping up a level and landing the Grade 3 Nobel Damsel Stakes over a mile at the same track last weekend.

Bred by the Carlingford Breeding Syndicate, Off Limits was sold from Seskin Stud to Tom King for €24,000 as a foal. She races now for Martin Schwartz and is yet another smart winner for her Coolmore sire Mastercraftsman.

That son of Danehill Dancer (Danehill) was the European champion two-year-old who went on in his second season to add the St James’s Palace Stakes and Irish 2000 Guineas to his haul of victories.

At stud Mastercraftsman has been represented by top-class colts such as Kingston Hill and The Grey Gatsby, while his daughters include Amazing Maria, Thee Auld Floozie and Valley Girl. Each of this quintet won at Group 1 level.

Off Limits is the best of four winners from the Efisio (Formidable) mare Ravish who was placed a few times. She has five winning siblings and the best of them, from 15 known produce, was the French listed winner Special Discount (Nureyev). His full-sister Yakin was placed in a listed race for two-year-olds at Ayr 25 years ago.

Ravish is out of Looks Sensational (Majestic Light) and she is a half-sister to the Grade 1 Flamingo Stakes and American Derby winner Awe Inspiring (Slew O’Gold). Go back one more generation and there is no shortage of Group/Grade 1 winners on the page.

They include, in no particular order, champion three-year-old Zilzal (Nureyev), champion Canadian juvenile filly Negligee (Northern Afleet), dual Group 1 winner Polish Precedent (Danzig), and Prix Marcel Boussac and French 1000 Guineas winner Culture Vulture (Timeless Moment).
