ONE of the best-bred horses in training became an unbeaten listed bumper scorer at Ascot recently, and although his most famous and closest relations are Group 1 stars on the flat, another of them is a Grade 1 winner over hurdles, which augurs well for his prospects when he goes jumping.

Supasundae (by Galileo) was bred by Newsells Park Stud. He is a full-brother to the triple 12-furlong all-weather scorer Royal Peculiar, and he is the second foal out of Distinctive Look (by Galileo) who is a daughter of the famous producer Magnificient Style (by Silver Hawk).

She won the Group 3 Musidora Stakes, and she is a half-sister to the US Grade 1 winner and successful sire Siberian Summer (by Siberian Express), but what she has achieved at stud has been remarkable.

The best of her eight stakes winning offspring is the Group 1 King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes and Eclipse Stakes hero Nathaniel (by Galileo), a Newsells Park Stud stallion whose first foals made up to 300,000gns this year.

Supasundae could be described as being a three-parts brother to him and also to the 2012 Group 1 Irish Oaks heroine Great Heavens (by Galileo), and he is also very closely related to that pair’s siblings Playful Act, Percussionist and Changing Skies, each of whom is by Galileo’s sire Sadler’s Wells (by Northern Dancer).

Playful Act won the Group 1 Fillies’ Mile, was sold for $10.5 million in Keeneland in 2007, and she is the dam of the graded winners Giants Play (by Giant Causeway) and Anjaz (by Street) and the listed scorer Tearless (by Street Cry) as her first three foals.

Changing Skies won a pair of Grade 3 contests over middle-distances in the USA, and Percussionist won the Group 2 Yorkshire Cup before going jumping, adding the Grade 1 Grand National over hurdles at Far Hills in New Jersey.

Magnificient Style is also the dam of the Group 2 Sun Chariot Stakes and Park Hill Stakes heroine Echoes In Eternity (by Spinning World), who is, in turn, the responsible for the Group 3 scorer Whispering Galley (by Daylami), and she has also produced the listed scorers Petara Bay (by Peintre Celebre) and Stylelistick (by Storm Cat).

Supasundae took the two-mile, Listed Ascot Underwriting Championship Standard Open National Hunt Flat Race on his second outing in bumpers, and it will be fascinating to see where his career goes from this point.
