THE Japan Racing Horse Association has recently published the list of yearlings and foals that will be offered at their premier sale on July 11th and 12th. At a future date I will take a closer look at the catalogue, but a number of lots with a distinct European appeal are listed for sale.

Among the yearlings are a Dansili colt out of the Group 3 winner Via Medici, a daughter of Medicean. The colt is a half-brother to the stakes winner Via Pisa and was purchased in utero at Arqana for €480,000. A Footstepsinthesand colt out of the Alzao mare Carenage is a half-brother to the dam of Group 1 runner-up Cubanita. Carenage is a daughter of the Yorkshire Oaks winner Key Change.

Meanwhile Harry Sweeney’s Paca Paca Farm has a yearling colt by King’s Best out of the Ogygian mare Taiki Dia, while also offering a number of foals

The 2016 crop includes a son of Invincible Spirit, the first produce of the Galileo mare Bryce Canyon who sold last year at the Tattersalls December Sale for 265,000gns. Bryce Canyon is a daughter of the dual Group 1 winner and champion French filly Bright Sky. The Group 3 winner Mambia was sold for 160,000gns at the same sale and her Kingman colt is another for sale.

A total of 248 yearlings and 243 foals are catalogued and a full list can be viewed on www.jrha-selectsale.com Champion sire Deep Impact has 21 yearlings and 16 foals and last year he was responsible for five of the six yearlings, and two of the four foals, that realised the equivalent of US$1 million or more.

The exception among the yearlings was a Tapit colt out of Champagne D’Oro and he has a half-brother by Deep Impact on offer this time. The Tapit made about US$1.85 million last July. What could this year’s colt bring?
