TORNADO Flyer won the Grade 1 Racing Post Champion INH Flat Race, eclipsing his admirable performance when finishing third in the Grade 1 Weatherbys Champion Bumper at Cheltenham. He is an emerging star who will do well to be half as good as his ‘uncle’, the brilliant Hurricane Fly (Montjeu).

Bred by Sweetmans Bloodstock, Tornado Flyer is yet another star for his veteran sire Flemensfirth (Alleged) who holds court at The Beeches Stud. Flemensfirth stands for €15,000 this year and his list of other winners at the highest level includes Imperial Commander (Cheltenham Gold Cup), Flemenstar (four Grade 1s), Pandorama (four Grade 1s), Tidal Bay (three Grade 1s), Total Enjoyment (Weatherbys Champion Bumper), Defy Logic, Poetic Rhythm, Backspin, Joe Lively, Muirhead, Prince Of Scars, One Track Mind, Relegate, Waiting Patiently, and Coney Island.

On the dam side Tornado Flyer is the first foal from the Exceed And Excel (Danehill) mare Mucho Macabi who was placed a few times at two and three in Italy. She was a €40,000 Goffs Orby Sale yearling, but the emergence of her half-brother Hurricane Fly saw her attention turned to the National Hunt scene and her first stud mate was Flemensfirth.

Tornado Flyer sold as a foal for €30,000 at Goffs to Gerry Hogan, and was resold by Pine Tree Stud for €63,000 at the 2016 Goffs Land Rover Sale. Peter and Ross Doyle Bloodstock were the purchasers on that occasion.

Only one of Tornado Flyer’s siblings has sold to date, his year younger full-sister Hurricane Junior (Flemensfirth). Unraced to date, she was bought for just €3,000 last year by Patrick McCormack at the Goffs Land Rover Sale, under half what she had cost as a foal some three years earlier.

Mucho Macabi has a three-year-old filly and two-year-old colt by Fame And Glory (Montjeu) and a yearling filly by Walk In The Park (Montjeu). She is a half-sister to the world record-breaking Grade 1 winner Hurricane Fly (Montjeu) who won 26 races and £1.9 million!
