THE recent roll of honour for the Listed EBF Stallions Montrose Fillies’ Stakes includes the Group 1 winners Passage Of Time, Timepiece, and Blue Bunting, and with the pedigree that she possesses it would be no surprise to see Fireglow add her name to that select list.

The daughter of Kildangan Stud ace Teofilo (by Galileo) was already on an official handicap mark of 105 before that four-length success and she is among the entries for next year’s Group 1 Tattersalls Irish 1000 Guineas.

She is somewhat closely related to a recent dual Derby winner, which made her winning debut over five furlongs eye-catching, and she was not disgraced when fourth behind Illuminate in the Group 3 Albany Stakes at Ascot several weeks later.

She then won the Listed Star Stakes at Sandown, was a half-length runner-up to Blue Bayou in the Group 3 Sweet Solera Stakes, and short-headed by Hawksmoor in the Group 3 Prestige Stakes, all over seven furlongs, and her only other start is her fourth place finish behind Trixia in the Group 3 Prix des Reservoirs at Deauville over a mile in very soft ground.

With seven runs behind her one could see this filly as being well exposed, but that most recent outing was impressive, her overall form is quite good, and she is bred to come into her own over 10 and 12 furlongs at three.

Teofilo’s string of Group 1 stars includes Pleascach, Voleuse De Coeurs, and the ill-fated Trading Leather, and Fireglow’s siblings include the dual two-mile Beverly scorer Moon Trip (by Cape Cross).

Her half-brother Paschendale (by Refuse To Bend) has won over 10 furlongs and stays further, and her dam Fading Light (by King’s Best) was placed in the Group 3 Prix Chloe and in the Group 3 Prix Vanteaux.

unraced daughter

That mare is among eight winners from an unraced daughter of the Group 3 Lancashire Oaks and Group 3 Cheshire Oaks winner One Over Parr (by Reform), a full-sister to the 1974 Group 1 Oaks heroine Polygamy, and their dam Seventh Bride (by Royal Record) won the Princess Royal Stakes and was runner-up in the Nassau Stakes.

But these are not the only notable performers in the family as three of Fading Light’s siblings are listed scorers and one of those is Fickle (by Danehill).

That half-sister to Faru (by Mtoto) and Birdie (by Alhaarth) is the dam of the Group 3 Dahlia Stakes winner Tarfah (by Kingmambo) and so is the grandam of the classic star and Coolmore Stud stallion Camelot (by Montjeu).

He won the Group 1 Racing Post Trophy as a juvenile, took the 2000 Guineas, Derby and Irish Derby at three, and missed out on adding his name to the Triple Crown roll of honour when runner-up to the ill-fated Encke in the St Leger. His first crop are foals.

Pattern-placed dual stakes winner Fireglow was bred by Darley, she is trained by Mark Johnston, and with further improvement possible when she steps up in trip, she could become an Oaks filly in 2016.
