JUST weeks after landing the French 2000 Guineas Brametot made it a classic double in the Group 1 Qipco Prix du Jockey Club, the French Derby. What a start this has been to the stud career of his sire Rajsaman who stood for just €8,000 this season. Last year Brametot was also the leading performer among the first crop of two-year-olds running for Rajsaman, winning a listed race at Bordeaux.

While the La Cauviniere-based stallion sired many winners, just two of them earned black type last season, and he was the leading first crop sire standing in France.

His yearlings were well received when they first appeared and he has seen his fee rise from an initial €4,000.

A son of Linamix who sired 13 Group 1 winners including the Arc winner Sagamix, Rajsaman fell just short of that class, his best efforts at the highest level coming when he was third in the Prix d’Ispahan (to Goldikova) and the Prix du Moulin de Longchamp behind Excelebration. A listed winner over a mile at two years, he beat Siyouni and Lope De Vega in the Group 3 Prix de Fontainebleau at three and at four stepped up again to land a pair of Group 2 races over a mile.

It was to be expected that Rajsaman’s progeny would improve with age and Brametot’s successes are a huge boost to those dreams being fulfilled. Brametot is from a top-class, stout German family. His dam Morning Light, by the Alleged stallion Law Society, won twice in Germany and was sold for €12,000 when carrying Brametot at Arqana to Johnny McKeever. Brametot sold the following year as a foal for €26,000 to Sylvain Vidal.

Morning Light is a half-sister to the multiple Group 1 winner Monsun, later an influential sire. His sons and daughters include Manduro, Novellist, Maxios, Protectionist, Fiorente, Stacelita, Estimate, Silasol, Shirocco, Schiaparelli, Vadamos and many more Group 1 winners. Monsun’s full-sister Morning Queen won in Germany and her best runner is the Group 1 Prix du Cadran winner Molly Malone.
