RIVET featured in this column after the son of Fastnet Rock landed the Group 1 Racing Post Trophy at Doncaster last year, and now his year-older own-brother is aiming to add further glory to the family, with the BMW Hong Kong Derby on March 19th as his ultimate aim.

A dual winner from the William Haggas yard when named Out And About, the four-year-old was renamed Booming Delight following his export and he could even reappear this weekend in the Hong Kong Classic Mile, though that plan was not set in stone at the time of writing.

Should Booming Delight go on to win a blacktype race he would become the third offspring of his dam Starship to do so. Her first foal was the Danehill Dancer colt Alexander Pope and he won the Group 3 Airlie Stud Gallinule Stakes when trained at Ballydoyle before transferring to Hong Kong, though he failed to add to his wins there.

HONG KONG WINNERS

Two other sons of Starship have won in Hong Kong however, the Dylan Thomas gelding Pickled Pelican and her Duke Of Marmalade son Bilimbi, who was renamed Winning Boy. Six of Starship’s first seven foals have now raced and won and the eighth offspring is a two-year-old son of Declaration Of War who has been named Avior.

Starship is one of 11 winning siblings and the rest are headed by a filly who was a star for the Haggas stable. The best juvenile filly in Europe, Superstar Leo was a daughter of College Chapel and she won the Flying Childers and Norfolk Stakes, while also running second in the Group 1 Phoenix Stakes and the Prix de l’Abbaye de Longchamp. At stud she is the dam of stakes winners Enticing (by Pivotal) and Sentaril (by Danehill Dancer). One of Starship’s non-winning half-sisters is the Danzero mare New York and her Medecis son December Draw won and was placed in the Group 1 Turnbull Stakes in Australia.

Booming Delight’s third dam Dancing Rocks won the Group 2 (now Group 1) Nassau Stakes and three of her nine winners are stakes winners.

Her daughters have produced the Group 1 winners Footstepsinthesand (2000 Guineas) and Pedro The Great (Phoenix Stakes), as well as the classic-placed Mahler, and she is the third dam of classic winner Power and the Grade 1 E P Taylor Stakes winner Curvy.
