The supporting card of group races at Chantilly was especially rewarding for Darley stallions. Shamardal’s three-year-old colt Doha Dream landed the Group 2 Prix Chaudenay to make a perfect start to the weekend, while a little more than 35 minutes later Monsun’s The Juliet Rose denied Dermot Weld’s runner Almela in the Group 2 Prix de Royallieu.
New Approach made his mark when the German-bred, owner and trained five-year-old Potemkin landed the Group 2 Prix Dollar just before Teofilo’s Quest For More won the Cadran.
The remaining group race was the one-mile Prix Daniel Wildenstein and this Group 2 race went to the $625,000 yearling buy Taareef, a son of Kitten’s Joy. The sire stands for $100,000 at Ramsey Farm and is also the sire of this year’s Eclipse Stakes winner Hawksbill. Another of his sons is Bobby’s Kitten, winner of the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint and a new stallion recruit for 2017 at Lanwades Stud.
