BROTHER Bear continued the remarkable run of success being enjoyed by Jessica Harrington when he won the Listed Marble Hill Stakes at a rain-soaked Curragh last Saturday. Bred by Martin White and sold as a yearling through Knockainey Stud for 125,000gns in Book 2 of the Tattersalls October Sale, the Kodiac colt will next tackle the Coventry Stakes at Royal Ascot.

The first foal of his unraced Mr Greely (Gone West) dam Hurricane Emma, he is followed by a yearling half-sister by Camelot. She is nicely appreciating in value while enjoying life at present. Hurricane Emma was bought as a foal in Keeneland by Ger Burke and pinhooked from his Glidawn Stud at the Goffs Orby Sale in 2011 for €40,000, being signed for by Peter Molony’s Rathmore Stud. While she failed to make it to the racecourse, her pedigree ensured that she got her chance at stud.

Her half-brother King Hesperus (Kingmambo) was trained by Aidan O’Brien and was disqualified after passing the post in front in a Gowran Park maiden 14 years ago. He had been bought for $330,000 as a yearling by Demi O’Byrne. The colt made amends next time out in a listed race at Leopardstown and he went on a few years later to add a further win in Hong Kong.

King Hesperus and Hurricane Emma are out of the Exbourne mare Victorica and she was a stakes winner in the USA where she was also graded-stakes placed. Her half-brother Noble Minstrel won the Listed Free Handicap and was runner-up at Longchamp in the French 2000 Guineas.

The rise and rise of Kodiac continues unabated, He has now notched up 32 stakes winners, including Group 1 winner Tiggy Wiggy and Group 2 scorers Kodi Bear, Besharah, Adaay, Ardad and Prince Of Lir. This year has yielded Group 3 winner Grizzel and fellow stakes winner Second Thought, Absolute Blast and Best Solution. The three-parts brother to Invincible Spirit stands for €50,000 at Tally Ho Stud.
