IT was a weekend to remember for Chad Brown and jockey Joel Rosario, landing the Hollywood Derby with Raging Bull and the $300,000 Grade 1 Matriarch Stakes with Uni, a four-year-old daughter of More Than Ready (Southern Halo). She remains undefeated in four starts in 2018.

Owned by Michael Dubb and partners, Uni has previously won the Grade 3 Noble Damsel Stakes at Belmont, the Plenty Of Grace Stakes at Aqueduct and the De La Rose Stakes at Saratoga this year. Last year she was a listed winner in France before moving to the USA and annexing the Grade 2 Sands Point Stakes at Belmont. She was placed in the Grade 1 Belmont Oaks and her seven wins in 14 starts have earned connections just shy of $900,000. She was sold as a yearling at Arqana for just €40,000.

Uni is the first foal and winner for her dam Unaided, a daughter of Dansili (Danehill) who raced with no success in Japan. She was then sold, carrying Uni, to Haras d’Etreham for $230,000 at Keeneland. Since then she has produced a three-year-old colt Al Mujahaz (Dutch Art), a two-year-old colt Isolate (Maxios) and a yearling colt by Le Havre (Noverre).

Unaided is a half-sister to the Listed Chesham Stakes winner Whazzat (Daylami) and that mare is the dam of dual group winner James Garfield (Exceed And Excel) who was runner-up in this year’s Group 1 Prix Maurice de Gheest. Another sibling of Unaided is the Italian Group 3 winner Whazzis (Desert Prince).

Uni’s third dam Eljazzi (Artaius) produced 10 winners and the best of these was the Group 1 Prix de Diane-French Oaks winner Rafha (Kris), dam of Group 1 winner and leading sire Invincible Spirit (Green Desert). Another of their siblings is the Group 3 Blandford Stakes winner Chiang Mai (Sadler’s Wells) and she bred the Group 1 Pretty Polly Stakes winner Chinese White (Dalakhani).

Also from the immediate family is the Coolmore Stud sire Pride Of Dubai (Street Cry), winner of a pair of Group 1 races in Australia.

More Than Ready will be 22 years of age next year and WinStar, where he stands, have increased his fee from $60,000 to $80,000. A Grade 1 winner of seven races at the ages of two and three, More Than Ready has had another good year in 2018 with five Grade 1 winners, three of them new, and the list includes the dual Breeders’ Cup Sprint winner Roy H.

More Than Ready’s 15th crop are two-year-olds and his tally of winners includes 24 Group/Grade 1 scorers.
