DUE to go under the hammer yesterday morning at the Goffs November Sale was a filly foal by Cape Cross out of the stakes-winning Mujadil mare Chiquita Linda.

Bred by Gerry Callanan and consigned under his Nanallac Stud, the filly’s sale prospects were given a major boost a week earlier when her two-year-old full-brother Turbine made a winning debut over seven-furlongs at Wolverhampton.

Bought for €68,000 as a foal, Turbine is trained by Mark Johnston and he landed this victory by more than three lengths, with the third as far back again.

This was a highly promising start to his career and future plans for the colt, who shares his sire with this year’s champion three-year-old Golden Horn, will be watched with great interest.

This is winner number six from six runners for Chiquita Linda who was a listed winner of five races in Italy. It is interesting to note also that every one of her colts has run and won.

Chiquita Linda is from a family that has done the Callanan clan proud for many years now.

She is one of nine winners out of the Double Form mare Twany Angel and the others include the Group 1 Prix de la Foret winner Mount Abu.

One of Twany Angel’s winning daughters Angelic Sounds bred a number of stakes performers and is the grandam of Serious Attitude.

That daughter of Mtoto won the Group 1 Cheveley Park Stakes at two and later added a Grade 1 victory in Canada when she was victorious in the Nearctic Stakes.

Twany Angel was produced by the Birdcatcher Stakes winner Athy Angel, who bred six winners.
