Timely sales boost for Chrono Genesis’ relation

THE Group 1 victory for Chrono Genesis in the Takarazuka Kinen on Sunday was timely, coming just over a fortnight before the Japan Racing Horse Association Select Sale. The first day of the sale is for yearlings, and foals take centre stage on the second day.

One of the early foals for sale on July 14th is a colt by the Group 1 Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe winner Bago (Nashwan), the only offering at the sale by the sire. Though he went to stud in 2008, the European three-year-old colt has had limited success as a stallion, getting just two Group 1 winners. The better of that duo is last weekend’s feature race winner.

As it happens, the Bago colt for sale in two weeks’ time is out of a half-sister to his best runner, the aforementioned Chrono Genesis. This four-year-old is now winner of six of her 11 starts and she was doubling her Group 1 tally at the weekend, having previously been successful in the Shuka Sho. She was also placed in both the Japanese 1000 Guineas and Oaks.

This is a family that has had a resurgence in recent times. Last year Chrono Genesis’ half-sister Normcore (Harbinger) was also a Group 1 winner when she captured the Victoria Mile, one of five career successes. Normcore’s winning own-sister Red Raffine (Harbinger) is the dam of the upcoming sale entry.

Normcore and Chrono Genesis are daughters of Chronologist (Kurofune), a winner from just two starts, and she is the dam of eight winners with her first eight foals. One of six minor winners for her unraced dam In This Unison (Sunday Silence), Chronologist is closely related to the champion two-year-old Fusaichi Richard (Kurofune). They are by the same sire and out of full-sisters.

Beach Samba

Fusaichi Richard is a full-brother to Beach Samba (Kurofune) and she was placed in the Group 1 Hanshin Juvenile Fillies as a two-year-old in 2018.

They are out of Fusaichi Airedale (Sunday Silence) who was a leading filly on the track and was runner-up in a number of races that are now Group 1, including the Japanese 1000 Guineas.

Fusaichi Airedale is the best of the eight winners from Rustic Belle (Mr Prospector) and she was imported to Japan after winning as a three-year-old in France.

Her half-brother Entitled To (Golden Act) was a Grade 2 winner in the USA, his 15 successes coming between the ages of three and 10.
