THE weekend after news of Success Day’s retirement to stud in 2020 was announced, his sire Jeremy (Danehill Dancer) was responsible for Reserve Tank who opened his winning account over fences in the Grade 2 Rising Stars Novices’ Chase at Wincanton. This was his second time over the larger obstacles and trainer Colin Tizzard is already thinking of Cheltenham in March for his star five-year-old.

Bred by Louis Dunne, Reserve Tank sold as a foal at Tattersalls Ireland through Vinesgrove Stud for €18,000 to John Coffey, and two and half years later was the subject of a private transaction for €35,000 at the Goffs Land Rover Sale when he was bought by Ross Doyle, having been consigned by Ballincurrig House Stud.

Reserve Tank is the first foal from his dam Lady Bellamy, a daughter of Galileo’s full-brother Black Sam Bellamy (Sadler’s Wells).

Louis Dunne bought her as a just-turned yearling for €2,000 at the 2006 Goffs February Sale but he retained her at €12,000 as a three-year-old at Fairyhouse.

When she won a point-to-point at Templemore on her debut, he must have felt well justified in keeping her.

Sadly she did not show the same level of performance when tried a few times on the racecourse proper and she went to stud.

Marsa Road (Jeremy) is a four-year-old full-sister to Reserve Tank, winner of the Grade 1 Champion Novice Hurdle at Punchestown and the Grade 1 Mersey Novices’ Hurdle at Aintree this year, while Lady Bellamy’s third produce is a three-year-old daughter of Rossenarra Stud’s Windsor Knot (Pivotal).

Lady Bellamy’s dam Miss Nowhere (Exit To Nowhere) was exported to India in 2005, in foal to Mull Of Kintyre (Danzig), and the filly she was carrying, Miss Everywhere, won the Listed Byerly Turk Stakes at Hyderabad. Miss Nowhere was a juvenile winner in France and her half-brother Mendez (Bellypha) won the Group 1 Prix du Moulin de Longchamp.

The final crop by Jeremy are now four-year-olds and his early death continues to be a matter of regret for breeders. His Grade 1 winners over jumps also include Our Conor, Jer’s Girl and Whiskey Sour.
