CONGRATULATIONS to the Turf Club Senior Steward Neville O’Byrne, but this time wearing his breeder’s hat. The Zoffany two-year-old Pinky Promise became her sire’s 16th individual first crop winner last week, and he is chasing his stud mate Canford Cliffs for the title of most prolific winner producer among the stallions with their first runners in 2015.
Pinky Promise made the news last year when she was sold for £100,000 at the DBS Premier Yearling Sale to Peter & Ross Doyle Bloodstock. She was consigned by Harry Dutfield who made a killing on the filly’s foal price of €10,000 at the Goffs November Sale. The Richard Hannon trained filly won a maiden at Brighton, building on placed efforts at Windsor and Chelmsford.
Promise Of Love was placed a few times for Michael Grassick and two of her first three foals are winners. Her fourth produce is a filly foal by Most Improved, from the first crop of that Group 1 winning son of Lawman. Promise Of Love is a half-sister to Captain Rio, the Group 2 winning son of Pivotal who went on to sire Group 1 winners himself, notably the 2014 Darley Classic winner Terravista and the Crown Oaks winner Brazilian Pulse in Australia, as well as the New Zealand juvenile Group 1 winner Il Quello Veloce.
