THE catalogue for the Tattersalls August Sale is available, and one of the entries due for sale on the second day (which falls on September 1st) is the Aidan O’Brien trained Horoscope. The three-year-old son of No Nay Never (Scat Daddy) has now gone and boosted his sale prospects by landing the Listed Vincent O’Brien Ruby Stakes at Listowel on Thursday evening.

His victory came on the same day that his sire’s daughter Zain Claudette, foaled and raised at Castlehyde Stud, added to her Ascot success in the Group 3 Princess Margaret Stakes by landing the Group 2 Lowther Stakes at York.

Given the success enjoyed by No Nay Never, it is hardly creditable that Zain Claudette was sold to Rabbah Bloodstock for just £20,000 last year. She had been unsold at €58,000 as a foal!

Perhaps disappointed with the outcome last year, Zain Claudette’s Exceed And Excel (Danehill) half-sister was withdrawn from the Goffs Foal Sale, but she is scheduled instead to appear at the Tattersalls Ireland September Sale. As only the second offspring of her winning dam, and the first being a dual group winner and one of the best juvenile fillies in Britain, there is every chance Lot 451 in Fairyhouse will be a star performer in the ring.

The fillies are out of the US-bred Claudette (Speightstown) and she is most interesting, being a four-time winner – in Poland. Not many such fillies come back to the European breeding pool, but thankfully she did.

Claudette is one of six winners out of Tippity Witch (Affirmed), and she was a smart racemare in America, winning the Grade 3 Martha Washington Stakes at Laurel and placed a number of times at that level.

Senor Benny

Tippity Witch was one of eight winners from her stakes-winning dam Senora Tippy (El Gran Senor), and while she was possibly the highest-rated of those winners, she was only second in terms of popularity to her half-brother, Senor Benny (Benny The Dip).

Placed on his only run for John Gosden, he sold for 3,000gns and joined the McDonagh’s in Galway. He started some 95 times for them, won more than £200,000 and his 10 wins included three successes in the Listed Abergwaun Stakes at Tipperary.

Meanwhile, Horoscope’s impending date with the auctioneer is another to be anticipated, He comes from a superb female line, his third dam being the brilliant Sonic Lady (Nureyev), winner of the Group 1 Irish 1000 Guineas, Sussex Stakes and Prix du Moulin de Longchamp.
