SURELY every effort will be made to repatriate Daredevil (More Than Ready) from his current home in Turkey. Very popular with breeders, he has just completed his first season there, covering a large book of mares.

How delighted they must be to see that his first crop of three-year-olds in the USA contains a pair of Grade 1 winners, and they ran first and second at the weekend in the Grade 1 Kentucky Oaks.

The pair are Shedaresthedevil and Swiss Skydiver, and I wrote recently about the latter. Shedaresthedevil was bred by WinStar Farm, where her sire stood, and sold as a foal for $100,000, but was retained the following September at just $20,000. A winner and stakes-placed at two, she sold again last November for $280,000 and the near $750,000 she earned for last weekend’s win boosted her total stakes to nearly $1.25 million. Her four wins in 2020 also include the Grade 3 Honeybee Stakes and Grade 3 Indiana Oaks.

She is the best of four winning offspring from the winning Congrats (A.P.Indy) mare Starship Warpspeed. That mare is one of half a dozen winners from Andria’s Forest (Forestry), an unraced half-sister to Grade 2 winner and Grade 1 Santa Anita Derby runner-up Crafty C.T. (Crafty Prospector).
