CECILY Purcell bred Walk To Freedom, a somewhat fortunate winner of the Irish Stallion Farms European Breeders Fund Beginners Chase at Navan on Sunday, but this will not be the last you hear of the son of Arcadio who won twice over hurdles and was placed behind Outlander and Shaneshill in his two previous starts over fences. Watch out for his next start which is likely to be at Limerick over Christmas.
Arcadio stands at Arctic Tack Stud and the Group 2 winning son of Monsun is siring of plenty of winners, notably The Game Changer. His first crop are only six-year-olds. He is also the sire of a three-year-old full-brother to Walk To Freedom and this gelding topped the Tattersalls Ireland August Sale this year, selling for €75,000 to Gerry Griffin and Nicky Richards.
Walk To Freedom is the first winner out of the unraced Carryonharriet, a daughter of Norwich and a half-sister to the listed Aintree hurdle winner Holland Park and the 11-time winner and Grade 3-placed Carryonharry. They were both sons of Roselier.
The third dam of Walk To Freedom is the point-to-point winner Holy Cross and she is a sibling of Eliogarty, an outstanding hunter chaser who won 16 chases and seven point-to-points.
Many good horses have emerged from various strands of this family which has had a long and distinguished association with both Cecily Purcell and her late mother Margaret Sweeney at Orwell Stud.
