CONGRATULATIONS to Micheal Orlandi and Compas Stallions for their decision to reintroduce Kuroshio (Exceed And Excel) to Europe in 2019. He was well supported this year with more than 100 mares covered, and breeders will have taken great satisfaction from the recent victory of his three-year-old daughter Kurious in the Group 3 Coral Charge Sprint Stakes on the Eclipse card at Sandown.
Always well regarded by her trainer Henry Candy, the three-year-old was bred to be a leading sprinter and, who knows, she might even in time emulate her famous siblings and win a Group 1. She is the latest star from her unraced Cozzene (Caro) dam Easy To Imagine who was sold at the Doncaster November Mixed Sale for 5,200gns in 2002. She has gone on to leave behind two Group 1 winners – so far!
Last year when Alpha Delphinia (Captain Gerrard) won the Coolmore Nunthorpe Stakes he became the second son of Easy To Imagine to win a Group 1 sprint in Europe. Seven years earlier his half-brother Tangerine Trees (Mind Games) triumphed in the Qatar Prix de l’Abbaye de Longchamp.
Kurious is the sixth runner and winner for Easy To Imagine, also joining eight-time winner Masai Moon (Lujain), five-time scorer Galatian (Traditionally) and last season’s winning three-year-old Fairy Falcon (Sepoy).
Easy To Imagine was bred in the USA by Gainsborough Farm and she is a half-sister to five winners. She is out of Zarani Sidi Anna (Danzig) who was trained by Sir Michael Stoute for Sheikh Hamdan Al Maktoum and won four times in England and the USA. She never managed to land a stakes win, though she was third in the Group 1 Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot and the Grade 1 Milady Handicap at Hollywood Park,
Zarani Sidi Anna is a three-parts sister to Dancing Shoes (Danehill) and that mare’s winning progeny include the Grade 2 La Canada Stakes at Santa Anita winner Striking Dancer (Smart Strike) and last year’s Group 2 winner Raymond Tusk (High Chaparral).
