THE latest blacktype winner for the deceased Jeremy (Danehill Dancer) is Santa Rossa, successful in the Grade 2 Coolmore EBF Mare INH Flat Race at Leopardstown and now unbeaten in two starts for her owner/breeder Tilly Conway.

Mrs Conway and her husband PJ bought the John Oxx-trained winner Handora (Hernando) as a five-year-old from Lady O’Reilly, the same year that the mare foaled a colt by Barathea (Sadler’s Wells). The colt was named Follow On and he eventually tasted success a couple of times over hurdles. The Conways bred a couple of other hurdle winners from the mare, namely Carlos (Danehill Dancer) and Don Franco (Oratorio), the latter a winner over fences also. The pair were trained by Jim Dreaper.

Handora’s daughter Panther Moon (Almutawakel) did not race and Santa Rossa, who is trained by Dermot McLoughlin, is her second foal. The first was not named. Santa Rossa is followed by a four-year-old daughter of Born To Sea (Invincible Spirit) and a three-year-old filly and two-year-old colt, both by Westerner (Danehill).

Handora was bred by Airlie Stud and is from a family with which the farm enjoyed plenty of success. She is a half-sister to the dual Group 1 winning stayer Assessor (Niniski) and he made his mark on the National Hunt scene as the sire of standouts such as Anibale Fly, Reve De Sivola and My Way De Solzen. Assessor’s dam Dingle Bay (Petingo) was a full-sister to a pair of classic-placed colts in Valley Forge and Pitcairn.

This is a female line that produces Group 1 winners galore, and sires aplenty. Under the fourth remove are the likes of multiple Group 1 sire Invincible Spirit (Green Desert), Kodiac (Danehill), new Coolmore sire Gustav Klimt (Galileo), fellow Coolmore stallion Pride Of Dubai (Street Cry), and new Rathbarry sire for 2019, James Garfield (Exceed And Excel).
