YOU don’t have to tell Jim Bolger about the attributes of Teofilo, the son of Galileo (Sadler’s Wells) he trained to become European champion at two when his five victories included the Group 1 Darley Dewhurst Stakes, beating Holy Roman Emperor and Strategic Prince, and the Group 1 National Stakes, again accounting for Holy Roman Emperor.

The latter retired to stud at three when George Washington was found to be sub fertile (he sired a single foal and returned to racing), while Teofilo went to stud a year later but he never saw a racecourse again after his juvenile season, a knee injury restricting him to five races and five victories.

Bolger’s faith in Teofilo has been richly rewarded and he has enjoyed Group 1 success with a number of the Kildangan Stud stallion’s offspring, notably classic winners Pleascach and Trading Leather, and Group 1 winning two-year-olds Loch Garman and Parish Hall.

The trainer now has a two-year-old who could rise to the highest level in Guaranteed, winner of the Group 3 thetote.com Eyrefield Stakes at Leopardstown, a race won last year by classic winner Flag Of Honour.

Guaranteed is the best of three winners, from four runners, for his dam Gearanai (Toccet) who was bought for $40,000 as a ‘short yearling’ at Keeneland in January 2008 by Tom Gentry. She showed little on the racecourse in six starts, but she has made up for it at stud, and her immediate family received a boost two years ago when her half-sister Plainswoman (Zensational) became a Group 3 winner in Argentina.

Guaranteed is a full-brother to Meagher’s Flag (Teofilo) who won a handicap at Gowran in June and sold in September to Tom Malone for £65,000 at Goffs UK in September. Bolger has stayed with the winning formula and there is a yearling full-sister and a 2018 full-brother to Guaranteed at his farm.

Guaranteed is from a good female line and his third dam Dispute (Danzig) won four Grade 1 races in the USA, including the Kentucky Oaks. Among the stakes winners who have descended from her is another Bolger-trained group winner in Maoineach (Congaree). She won the Group 3 Go And Go Stakes at two and the Group 3 Leopardstown 1000 Guineas Trial the following year.

Dispute is one of three Grade 1 winners from the stakes winner Resolver (Reviewer) and is an own-sister to Adjudicating (Danzig), a leading juvenile when winning the Grade 1 Champagne Stakes, and a half-sister to Grade 1 Flamingo Stakes winner Time For A Change (Damascus).
