CYRUS Poonawalla is best known in this country as one of the part-owners of Gordon Lord Byron. The leading Indian breeder, owner and racing administrator also raced Altruistic (Galileo) in Ireland, the colt being trained for him by Tom Hogan.

Altruistic was acquired from Andrew Tinkler and Johnny Murtagh as a three-year-old after he had won his maiden and run third to Kingston Hill in the Group 1 Racing Post Trophy at two. At the end of his racing career he went to stud with Eamonn Hogan at Rosshill Farm in Galway and his first small crop has just turned five.

Hogan is looking forward to seeing many of them race, and is keen to promote the fact that the well-bred stallion is available for just €500, payable on covering, and if there is no foal you get a free return. He also believes that the stallion is suitable for both flat and National Hunt mares.

Getting support for stallions in the west of Ireland is an uphill battle, but Eamonn offers breeders great value, a friendly service and he has a choice of horses too. Among the others he stands is Gamut (Spectrum), a Group 1 winner from a famous Ballymacoll Stud family and the sire of Road To Respect and Road To Riches, among others.

Eamonn would be delighted to speak to breeders about any of the four sires he stands, and his contact details are to be found on rosshillfarm.com or on either the stud’s Facebook or Twitter accounts.
