AUDREY Thompson has enjoyed much success over many years as a breeder and she might just have another good one from her Kilmore Stud in the recent debut winner Justice Lady. David Elsworth trains this three-year-old daughter of Dream Ahead for Robert Ng and she was a hot favourite to win at Lingfield and she did, despite being slowly away.
To make up the ground she did over the minimum trip was eye catching, but being speedy is what she was bred to be. Elsworth will place her well and blacktype would make her a very valuable broodmare proposition, and we certainly know that her trainer has a way with fillies. Justice Lady ended up with Elsworth as he knows this Jeff Smith well, though he didn’t train any of them. Celestial Dream, the dam of Justice Lady, won as a three-year-old for Andrew Balding. Jeff Smith then consigned the daughter of Oasis Dream to the Tattersalls December Sale where Miss Thompson acquired her for just 18,000gns. That was to prove to be money well invested.
The mare’s first produce, a colt by Acclamation named Hesbaan, sold for €70,000 as a foal and he won and was placed numerous times. Sadly his career was curtailed and he died as a four-year-old. He was followed by a Marju colt and he did even better at the sales, making €88,000 as a foal. Named The Last Marju, he has been placed a few times for Johnny Murtagh.
Justice Lady is the third offspring and she traded as a foal for €40,000, reselling as a yearling profitably for 55,000gns. The fourth progeny of Celestial Dream is a yearling filly by Epaulette and she sold for €45,000 at Goffs last November on day two of the November Sale.
Celestial Dream is one of a quartet of winners from the Group 1 Nunthorpe Stakes winner Lochangel, a Night Shift half-sister to another winner of the race in Lochsong, the champion older mare in Europe in 1994 and twice a winner of the Group 1 Prix de l’Abbaye de Longchamp. At stud she is also the dam of a pair of stakes winners.
Should Justice Lady go on to win blacktype she will be adding further glory to an already impressive family, and enhancing Audrey Thompson’s reputation for producing sound, quality runners.
