BATED Breath (Dansili) has been having an incredible run of form, much to the delight of this columnist who is a big fan. He had three winners at Royal Ascot, followed by Simply Breathless winning the Grade 3 Wilshire Stakes in the USA.
One of his Ascot winners was the Roger Varian-trained Daahyeh, successful in the Group 3 Albany Stakes on her second start, and this in spite of carrying a small wager from me. This was a belated 20th birthday present for winning rider David Egan, no doubt delighting his father John, his mum Sandra Hughes and his grandmother Eileen.
Daahyeh was bred at the Deer Family’s Oakgrove Stud, on the former site of Chepstow racecourse, and she is the best runner to date from the winning Affluent (Oasis Dream). The dam was bought by the former Oakgrove manager Tim Lane, now the National Stud director, for just 35,000gns from Juddmonte at the Tattersalls December Mares Sale of 2016, carrying the Royal Ascot winner. The investment was recouped with profit when Daahyeh sold for £75,000 as a yearling to Oliver St Lawrence at the Goffs UK Premier Sale.
Affluent has a yearling colt by Oakgrove’s Al Kazeem (Dubawi) and a colt foal by Ribchester (Iffraaj). She is a half-sister to three stakes winners in Group 2 Flying Five hero Deportivo (Night Shift), juvenile stakes winner Irish Vale (Wolfhound) and Group 3 winner and Group 1 runner-up So Beloved (Dansili).
Daahyeh is one of eight stakes winner for Bated Breath who stood this year at Banstead Manor Stud in Newmarket at a fee of £10,000. He is also sire of Group 2 winners Beckford and Worth Waiting.
