CLARE Castle Stud in Killusty, near Fethard, sold recent two-year-old debut winner Euginio for 155,000gns to Tony Nerses last year and the son of Fastnet Rock is one for the notebook. He races in the colours carried to Derby success by Authorized and is the latest winner from the Diktat mare Starstone. He is the fourth winner for his dam who is already responsible for the listed winning Handassa, a daughter of Dubawi. Starstone is an unraced half-sister to two Group 1 winning champion sprinters in Pastoral Pursuits and Goodricke.

PADDY Doyle from Barrack Lodge in Carnew, Co Wicklow, is looking forward to the National Hunt foal sales later this year as he will be consigning a Scorpion half-brother to recent dual hurdle winner Red Giant and a Notnowcato colt from the same family. Paddy bred Red Giant and he decided to sell him as a foal privately to Norman Williamson after he was unsold at public auction at €3,700. Williamson sold the Beneficial gelding as a three-year-old for €32,000 to Noel Meade and owner Patricia Hunt.

PAUL Motherway of Yellowford Stud bred the 50/1 maiden winner at the Curragh on Sunday, the two-year-old colt Alexios Komnenos, a son of Choisir. Three of the last six winners of the race have gone on to become Group 1 winners; Roderic O’Connor, The United States and Gleneagles, while two of the others were successful at Group 2 and Group 3 level. The most recent winner is a grandson of the Grade 1 Acorn Stakes winner Aptostar and she is the foundation mare of many great Moyglare Stud winners such as Group 1 performers Royal Diamond, Irresistible Jewel, Mad About You and Profound Beauty.
