ON his first start for new connections Bravery earned back his purchase price with interest when he won the Lincoln at Doncaster last Saturday. The son of Galileo was sold from Ballydoyle Stables last October at Tattersalls for 44,000gns and he won a pot of more than £60,000 at the weekend.
Not many get away from the clutches of Aidan O’Brien but this is one that has already provided a windfall for his new trainer David O’Meara. The four-year-old was bred by Aidan and Annemarie O’Brien’s Whisperview Trading and the son of Galileo was sold as a yearling to Charlie Gordon-Watson for 400,000gns, part of The Castlebridge Consignment.
He then went to be trained by Aiden and won for him before running fourth in the Tattersalls Irish 2000 Guineas last year.
Bravery is beautifully bred and has a stallion’s pedigree. He has four stakes winning siblings, the classic-placed Group 3 winner Furners’s Green (by Dylan Thomas), and the listed winning fillies Mystical Lady (by Halling), Palace (by Fastnet Rock) and Lady Lupus (by High Chaparral).
In addition to being a stakes winner, Mystical Lady has crossed well with Galileo and is dam of the Group 1 Ascot Gold Cup and Irish Derby runner-up Kingfisher.
Bravery’s dam Lady Icarus did not race and she is by Rainbow Quest and out of the brilliant champion Sonic Lady (by Nureyev). She won the Irish 1000 Guineas, Sussex Stakes and Prix du Moulin de Longchamp, and also collected the then Group 2 Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot.
At stud she bred a number of group and stakes winners, while one of her daughters is doing well as a broodmare in Japan.
It will be worth following the progress of Bravery and if he can improve from this most recent success he could well eventually find himself a place at stud.
