BOBBY McCarthy at The Beeches Stud had a second weekend in a row to remember. A fortnight ago he was honoured by the Irish Thoroughbred Breeders’ Association for his lifetime commitment to the industry, while last weekend he bred two of the big race winners on the second day of the Dublin Racing Festival at Leopardstown. It was a first and last race double for McCarthy with a pair of Flemensfirth (Alleged) fillies, Alletrix and Relegate, landing the Grade B Irish Stallion Farms EBF Paddy Mullins Mares Handicap Hurdle and the Grade 2 Coolmore N.H. Sires Irish EBF Mares INH Flat Race respectively.

Victory for Alletrix was very timely for Ger Mackey who 48 hours later offered the winner’s Mahler (Galileo) three-year-old half-sister for sale at Goffs. Fenton Farms paid €10,000 for her. Alletrix, a bargain €15,000 Derby Sale buy, is the second foal and first winner for her dam Miracle Trix (Old Vic). She in turn is a half-sister to the Grade 2 Mildmay Novices’ Chase winner Aces Four (Fourstars Allstar) and this is a family that has a special association with the late Bunny Cox.

The dam of Aces Four is the unraced Special Trix (Peacock) and her full-brother Atone was a big race winner over hurdles and fences, capturing The Ladbroke Hurdle and the Arkle Chase at Leopardstown. Their full-sister Black Trix was listed placed over hurdles and is dam of the Grade 3 winning chaser Splendour (Broken Hearted).

Relegate maintained her unbeaten record in the bumper and is out of Last Of The Bunch who is now the fourth successive dam in the family to produce a blacktype winner. Some record. Relegate was sold at Goffs for €10,000 as a foal, and then traded twice at Fairyhouse, selling for €14,000 as a yearling and €35,000 to Colm Murphy as a three-year-old at the Derby Sale.

Relegate is the first foal of her dam who was trained by Alan Swinbank to win a bumper and a couple of hurdle races.

She is a full-sister to the listed bumper winner Funny Times (Silver Patriarch) and that pair of winners are out of the bumper and hurdle winner Elegant City, an own-sister to Better Times Ahead (Scallywag). He won no fewer than 23 races and warned a single but well-deserved blacktype success in the Long Distance Hurdle at Haydock.
