A SELECTION of two and three-year-old National Hunt horses will go under the hammer from 6.30pm this evening for the Arqana Lumet Show at Ecuries de la Ridaudière in Bécon-Les Granits. Fifty-six horses have been catalogued for the one-day sale, held in partnership with David Lumet, and will be shown in all three paces, including canter, at 2.30pm.
Among the stallions with stock catalogued are Bathyrhon, Chœur Du Nord, Goliath Du Berlais, It’s Gino, Great Pretender, Kapgarde, Masked Marvel, Nirvana Du Berlais, No Risk At All and Tunis. The colts, geldings and fillies hail from families featuring the likes of Apple’s Jade, Asterion Forlonge, Epatante, Klairon Davis, Nickname and Zarkandar.
While last year’s sale suffered declines across the board, organisers and buyers will be buoyed by graduates’ success, including those sold just 12 months ago. Maprotegee was picked up by Nicolas Bertran De Balanda for €17,000 and made a winning debut in the Prix Wild Monarch at Auteuil, a race won by Sir Gino in 2023.
Earlier graduates who have ended up in Ireland include Emmet Mullins’ unbeaten Grade 2 bumper winner Jeroboam Machin.
Sold to Vincent Le Roy at the Lumet Show for €10,000, the Joshua Tree gelding was resold a year later by Clifton Farm at the Tattersalls Ireland Derby Sale for €20,000.
He made a winning debut for Cormac Doyle at Durrow before joining current connections.
Last year’s top lot was a Goliath Du Berlais gelding bought by SARL Trotting Bloodstock for €70,000 and today’s sole offering by the exciting young sire is a two-year-old from the family of Nickname. Telecaster’s stock proved popular at the recent Summer Sale and Lot 44 is a filly from the family of Klairon Davis.
Kapgarde has a number of well-bred youngsters catalogued, including a full-brother to Grade 1 winner Amy Du Kiff (Lot 56) and a half-brother to two blacktype performers (Lot 18) The ever-popular sire is also responsible for fillies out of half-sisters to Grade 1 scorers Quel (Lot 3) and Royal Pagaille (Lot 48), and another from the family of Asterion Forlonge (Lot 7).
