A PARTIAL dispersal by Gigginstown House Stud features in the Tattersalls Online August Sale, for which bidding opens at 11am on Tuesday, August 12th and closes from 11am on Wednesday, August 13th.
Fred Winter Hurdle fourth Harsh is among those entered from Michael O’Leary’s operation. Also fourth in a Grade 2, the Dark Angel gelding has two hurdle wins on his CV and has placed twice over fences.
His Gordon Elliott stablemate Machismo was last seen taking second in a novice hurdle at Wexford, having kicked off the year with a 25-length maiden hurdle win.
Joining them is pricey store sale purchase Butchers Bill, who placed on his chase debut a few weeks ago. The full-brother to Romeo Coolio is one of six lots from Gigginstown, from a total of 120 horses in and out of training. Sixteen broodmares, four stores, two yearlings and a breeding right to proven Group 1 sire Ardad complete the catalogue.
National Hunt buyers are also sure to be interested in Peter Flood’s promising four-year-old Governors Rock. The Joshua Tree gelding won a Wexford bumper on his second start last month, after which Georgie Benson stated: “He is a lovely-bred horse and is definitely one for the future.”
Of the flat horses, Marco Botti offers the highest-rated by Timeform at 100. Officially rated 92 by the BHA, four-year-old Le Havre gelding Magico is a three-time winner over a mile to a mile and three furlongs, successful on both the All-Weather and turf.
Michael Appleby’s consistent sprinter Blind Beggar comes with an official rating of 84, his seven career wins including a valuable victory last term. King Of Bears sold for 200,000gns last October and, while he has only placed once since, the three-year-old gelding has now dropped from 96 to 85.
Breeding prospects
The horses in training selection includes some fillies with likeable pedigrees, such as the Andrew Balding-trained three-year-old Lady Kameko. Out of a blacktype Galileo mare, she is a half-sister to Queen’s Vase runner-up Saint George.
Haras du Buff’s offering, Asterina, boasts an attractive profile, having finished fourth at Group 3 level and being a half-sister to Group 1 runner-up Akatea. Offered with a filly foal by City Light at foot, she is in foal to Persian King, whose first three-year-olds include three stakes winners, led by Prix de Diane third Cankoura.
Starman is the freshman sire leading the way this season, much to the delight of Ballynure Park Stud, who offers the well-related winner Capla Dream in foal to the Tally-Ho Stud sire. Jerry Horan’s operation also offers a half-sister to Melbourne Cup hero Twilight Payment and own-sister to Group 2 second Bandiuc Eile, as well as a another dam of two winners, in foal to Showcasing.
Baroda Stud’s consignment includes two mares in foal to top sprinter Shaquille; Liquid Gold is a half-sister to Grade 1 winner North America and Serpens is a granddaughter of multiple Group/Grade 1 winner Gypsy’s Warning.
Others consigning in the sale include Al Shaqab Racing, Alne Park Stud, Amo Racing and Culworth Grounds Farm. Ralph Beckett, Michael Bell, Owen Burrows, Ed Dunlop, Gordon Elliott, Harry Eustace, Richard Fahey, Charlie Fellowes, James Ferguson, Richard Hannon, Jessica Harrington, Emma Lavelle, David O’Meara, James Owen, Kevin Ryan, George Scott, Paddy Twomey and Archie Watson are among the trainers with horses catalogued.
